► Boss rules out more GTA special editions► Giulia GTA = more power, less weight
► Back seats deleted for more helmet space
Alfa Romeo boss Jean-Philippe Imparato has ruled out building more limited-edition GTA models, pledging the manufacturer will not dilute the special series with extra allocations.
‘I will not make any new GTA special edition – we decided to stay with 1-500 examples and we will respect that commitment,’ he told reporters after reporting the company’s financial results in July 2022. ‘Don’t bullshit the customer every year with new special editions of the GTA. We will not do that.’
The Alfa Romeo GIulia GTA and GTAm are limited-edition high-performance versions of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, one of the most charismatic sports saloons on sale today.
Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA: the full story
If you can look at an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and not shout ‘wow!’ like Gregg Wallace looking at a machine making springs on an episode of Inside the Factory, then the fire has truly gone out in your heart.
Imagine then what husk or lump of coal must reside in the chest of someone able to resist the visual appeal of this wicked-up special edition, with its extra power, aggressive bodykit and slimmed-down kerbweight.
There’s even a choice of how hot you’d like it – the four-seat road-focussed Giulia GTA or the track day hero-spec Giulia GTAm with two race seats, roll-bar and six-point harness.
Holy moly look at that wing!
That’s actually a point of difference between the two models – the GTA has a more day-to-day bodykit and uses the same door panels, seats and windows as the standard car.
About 100kg of weight has been shed by using lightweight materials – carbonfibre has been used in the body panels, plus aluminium in the engine, doors and suspension.
It sits on 20-inch centrelock alloys and the front and rear track has been widened by 50mm, complemented by new springs, shock absorbers and bushings.
For maximum visual drama and downforce the GTAm features a much larger (although still road legal) front splitter plus a carbonfibre rear wing and diffuser. Further weight is trimmed away by using Lexan polycarbonate resin windows.
What’s under the bonnet?
The same twin-turbo, 2.9-litre V6 as the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio but with 532bhp (up 30bhp) thanks to recalibration, plus an Akrapovič titanium exhaust that runs through the rear diffuser. And looks extremely cool as a result.
Expect 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds (down three tenths) and an engine note that will make you go weak at the knees from half a mile away.
Yes! Well, the GTAm does, because it only has two seats (carbonfibre backed buckets with race harnesses) while the rear bench has a sculpted section to store your protective clothing.
That’ll include the Bell helmet in GTA livery and Alpinestars suit, gloves and shoes that Alfa Romeo is giving away with the car. That goes some way to making up for the lack of door panels and handles – you pull a material strap to open the door in the GTAm.
The GTA is a bit more plush with four seats and a full set of interior panels, plus Alcantara everywhere – the dashboard, door panels, glove compartment, side pillars and the seats.

I want one
So do we – but only 500 are being made and Alfa Romeo says they’ll all be individually numbered and certified in order to take their place as ‘a sought-after collector’s item’.
Don’t expect to see on being dailied on the M25, in other words.
