The Nio ES7, the Chinese automaker’s new mid-large SUV, could get the coupe treatment like the ES6 did in 2020. The electric SUV-coupe could arrive as the Nio EC7, a model positioned above the EC6, in 2023. Nio has already successfully registered ‘EC7 and ‘Nio EC7’ trademarks at various IP offices worldwide, and the Chinese media feel confident that such a product is in the pipeline.
Here’s our expectation from Nio’s future SUV-Coupe:
Design
Nio unveils new models and technologies at the annual Nio Day event, typically held at the end of the year or early in the next year. Pictured is TopElectricSUV’s rendition of the EC7.
The Nio EC7 could be a proper part-SUV, part-coupe model, not simply an ES7 with raked D-pillars. We expect its roof to extend flat over the body, drop steeply to the rear, and merge with the D-pillars. A bow-shaped greenhouse and the forward-leaning back glass would distinguish it from the ES7. Our rendering (featured image of the story) gives a fair idea of how the exterior of the upcoming Nio EV may look.
Specifications
The Nio EC7 should employ the same two motors that produce a combined power of 480 kW (643 hp) and a combined torque of 850 Nm (1,139 lb.-ft.). It could deliver a range of over 500 km (311 miles) with a 75 kWh battery pack, close to 650 km with a 100 kWh battery pack, and around 875 km with a 150 kWh battery pack. The 150 kWh battery pack might not be available right from launch, though.

The EC7 could have a similar length, width, and wheelbase as the ES7, but the height could be approximately 20-25 mm lower. As a result, its drag coefficient would be better than 0.263 Cd. The boot space of the EC7 wouldn’t be as spacious as the ES7, and the lower and streamlined shape could result in a lower headroom. For reference, the ES7 offers 570 liters of luggage space, expandable to 1,545 liters on folding down the rear seats.

Price & Release Date
If launched, the Nio EC7 would be slightly more expensive than the ES7, which costs CNY 468,000 (~USD 68,500). The base EC6 is CNY 10,000 (~USD 1,500) more expensive than the base ES6, and if Nio maintains this delta on the EC7, its base configuration could cost CNY 478,000 (~USD 70,000). Nio usually holds an event at the end of each year called Nio Day. At this event, they unveil new models and technologies. We should get an update on the future SUV-Coupe at the next event.
