Driver Doug Gordon walked away from amazing crash on Saturday in Minnesota.
NHRAVeteran NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Doug Gordon exited his Camaro on his own power Saturday following his frightening, nearly 250-mph accident during the first round of eliminations of the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd, Minn.
After conceding the rubber match to Shane Westerfield in their 29th meeting, Gordon’s Beta Motorcycles/Lucas Oil Chevy crossed the Brainerd International Raceway center line in the wake of clocking a 247.52-mph speed.
Just past the finish line, his car got out of shape, tipped over onto its side, and skated on the side of its nose into the opposite-lane (left) wall. The car jumped on top of the wall, nearly upside down, and slid for a few feet. It skidded to a stop with a tire hung on the barrier.
According to the NHRA, Gordon exited the car under his own power and was examined onsite by the NHRA medical team.
