- Yet-to-be-named successor to Volvo XC90
- Fully electric (EV)
- To debut later this year
You’re looking at patent images of the successor to the , though its name is yet to be announced as Volvo will be using a for their upcoming EV models.
That’s right, the next-generation Volvo XC90 (we’ll call it the 2023 Volvo XC90 for now) will be an electric vehicle (EV). Last year, Volvo unveiled the , which served as a manifesto for the next generation of all-electric Volvos and the basis for the XC90 replacement model.
Being an EV, the 2023 Volvo XC90 loses its front grille, and gets sleeker headlamps with its distinct Thor’s hammer graphics. It appears to have flush door handles that will presumably pop out upon unlocking.
At the rear, there’s a Polestar vibe with the C-shaped taillamps, though it doesn’t appear to have a full-width light bar based on the greyscale images. Interestingly, it does appear to have split-taillights with vertical sections flanking the rear window. Overall, it’s still recognizably a Volvo.
Volvo Concept Recharge
The XC90 successor is expected to make its debut sometime later this year, with new advanced driver-assistance systems offered.
