September unveiling confirmed for Subaru’s new-gen sports sedan after NY show cancellation
Calling all Subaru WRX fans: lock September 10 into your diaries.
The Japanese car-maker has confirmed the new reveal date for its highly-anticipated sixth-generation sports sedan following the cancellation of the New York motor show, where the 2022 Subaru WRX was originally due to debut on August 19.
Subaru USA confirmed overnight that the covers will now be pulled from the new Rex at 11pm AEST on September 10, during a virtual debut to take place in the US.
“The most exciting WRX ever is just around the corner,” Subaru USA said.
“The 2022 WRX is everything your right foot has been waiting for and now the wait is almost over. In a matter of days, you can see all the precision-engineered details revealed on September 10, 2021.
“Don’t miss out on your first look at the powerful, agile, completely redesigned 2022 WRX.”
Although hype continues to build around the next-generation WRX, the truth is there isn’t a whole lot left to learn about the forthcoming model, which will also spawn a new WRX STI and Levorg sports wagon.
Subaru USA has shown many of the finer details of the next-gen Rex via a series of teaser videos.
Furthermore, it has already been confirmed the WRX will again be available with a manual transmission and fitted with an old-school manual handbrake – together with a bigger new FA24 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol boxer engine producing about 213kW of power and 412Nm of torque.
Dimensionally, the new WRX is expected to be 55mm longer, 55mm wider and 25mm lower than the outgoing model.
Subaru Australia is still believed to be working on an early 2022 arrival timeline for the latest generation of the celebrated rally icon, and is continuing to take registrations of interest from eager enthusiasts.
