The system is also capable of improving battery life by 30%.
As more electric vehicle (EV) models are rolling out in the market, the need for faster charging time is as clear as day. UK-based WAE Technologies may have a solution with its new software called Elysia.
Elysia is a suite of battery management algorithms claimed to provide 25% faster EV charging time. This can save EV owners 10 minutes using a fast charger, which can be a lot, especially during holidays or the summer when many are on the road.
According to the engineering company, the system uses an intelligent charging algorithm to unlock the improved performance of EV batteries. Not only does it promise to deliver reduced charging times, but it also improves battery life by as much as 30%.

Currently, only a select mass-market EVs support fast charging. One is the Kia EV6, which can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. With Elysia, the all-electric compact crossover can theoretically charge up in eight minutes only. Its Hyundai counterpart, the Ioniq 5, should offer the same charging capabilities considering both use the same 800-volt EV architecture from the Hyundai Motor Company.
“To protect the life of the battery, an electric car currently leaves the factory with a predetermined set of parameters that govern its performance, including how quickly it can be rapidly charged,” said Elysia Commercial Lead Joe Jones.

“By reducing the time spent on a rapid charger by 10 minutes for a typical electric vehicle, Elysia can increase the number of cars each charger can service in a day. The benefit here being twofold: happier electric car owners and more efficient utilization of the existing rapid charging network.”
Battery management systems like Elysia can result in more efficient utilization of existing rapid chargers. Tesla's Supercharger network could use faster charging EVs to free up charging stalls, especially now that a slew of automakers such as Ford and GM will be given access to its superchargers starting next year.
