Nissan is recalling more than 200,000 examples of its two pickup trucks, the Titan and Frontier, in the U.S.; according to Transport Canada, another 5,977 units are affected in this country as well. On certain pickups, the transmission parking pawl may fail to hold the vehicle in park, causing it to potentially roll away unexpectedly.
In a document provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Nissan says the affected vehicles in the U.S. include the 2020 to 2023 Nissan Titan; and 2020 to 2023 Nissan Frontier with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Transport Canada lists the affected vehicles as the 2020 to 2022 Titan; and the 2022 Frontier (the Frontier was previously on a two-year hiatus in the Canadian market).
While there currently isn’t an available remedy, Nissan is asking owners to ensure the parking brake is used at all times, until a proper fix becomes available.
The NHTSA document states Nissan will be notifying owners by mail by November 1, 2022. When the corrective actions become available, another letter will be sent out that includes “a statement concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy for a subject vehicle that was no longer under warranty at the time of a repair.”
You can also check online at Transport Canada, using your VIN, to see if your vehicle has been recalled. Transport Canada’s number for the Nissanrecall is 2022-341, while the manufacturer’s recall number is R22A1.
