Fresh design for Japanese luxury brand’s all-new large SUV expected to be joined by new platform and updated powertrains
The fifth-generation Lexus RX has been previewed overnight ahead of its global debut on June 1.
Lexus says its all-new large premium SUV has “undergone a complete renewal” and the singular close-up teaser image gets us up close and personal with its new lighting signature and more angular front-end design.
The black, uniquely patterned grille mesh suggest this particular vehicle is an F Sport variant of some sort, but the key takeaway is the elevated levels of aggression continued by the large secondary intakes below the slimline headlights.
In an added touch of sophistication, the nose cone is adorned with similar geometric indentations as the grille mesh.
All major specification details will be announced come the reveal, but until then we anticipate the new Lexus RX will shift across to Toyota’s modular TNGA platform and feature an updated array of powertrains offering a better combination of power and efficiency.
The writing for the current model has been on the wall for a while now given it launched globally in 2015 – and received a major upgrade in 2019 – and another round of Crafted Editions emerged earlier this year.
There’s been no word on when to expect the new model in local showrooms, but it would be safe to assume Lexus’ latest answer to the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Genesis GV80 and Mercedes-Benz GLE will arrive in Australia before the end of the year.
