Aehra's flashy EVs will arrive with a bespoke battery pack.
Premium Italian EV startup Aehra revealed its electric SUV with dramatic butterfly doors last year. Now, the company has shared the details of an exciting partnership with Miba Battery Systems that should be sufficient for a range of almost 500 miles.
Besides the Lucid Air, there aren't many current EVs on the market that can cover that sort of distance on a full charge, and it'll give Aehra another reason for people to sit up and take note.
The new battery packs will be developed for Aehra's SUV and its upcoming electric sedan. Miba is an Austrian-based company that promises to deliver a secure supply chain and transparency on its battery materials.

For Aehra's models, the battery will be up to 120 kWh, larger than the battery in the Tesla Model X. Other development targets include fast charging at up to 350 kW and a peak voltage of 925V. Miba also aims to offer bi-directional charging that should allow these EVs to send power back to the grid, which the California legislature wants to make mandatory.
“Most home batteries are rated at 10 to 15 kWh, which is fine in the summer months but can prove problematic during heavy winter snowfalls when the photovoltaic panels become covered in snow and are temporarily unable to generate energy,” said Franco Cimatti, Aehra chief engineering officer. “But if you have a car sitting in your garage with a 100- to 120-kWh battery, that energy can be utilized to power a home for up to ten times longer than a conventional house battery.”

Miba's batteries will be a clean-sheet solution, which Aehra believes is an opportunity to develop a battery that perfectly matches the body structures of its cars rather than an off-the-shelf solution that may be compromised in some way. Furthermore, the batteries will have a FLEXcooler, which Miba claims is currently the most lightweight cooling system available.
“Miba operates a highly flexible approach, which is ideal for Aehra as we are developing EVs that transcend what is perceived as mainstream within the automotive industry,” said Stefano Mazzetti, head of purchasing and procurement at Aehra.

Total output is expected to be around 800 horsepower, the same as that of Aehra’s sedan. Despite this prodigious amount of power, Cimatti said that the company is “not setting out to break any speed records.” Rather, it wants to avoid an oversized battery that only leads to higher costs and a higher weight.
Besides the fact that it looks like a concept, the SUV has a futuristic and spacious cabin that can seat four NBA players. It’s also decked out with a huge dashboard display that makes it perfect for conducting video conferences if you can’t make it to the office on time.
Aehra aims to begin deliveries in 2025, joining a fast-growing list of new EV startups.
