Full UK pricing and specifications for the new SsangYong Korando e-Motion SUV have been revealed. The new SUV is SsangYong’s first fully-electric model, and it’ll be available in three trim levels, with prices from £30,495.

SsangYong has not yet confirmed when the new Korando e-Motion will go on sale, but with the brand revealing pricing and specifications for the model, it’s expected to arrive shortly. The new electric SUV will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia e-Niro and MG ZS EV.

2022 SsangYong Korando e-Motion: prices and specifications

When the Korando e-Motion goes on sale, three trim levels will be available. The base ELX trim starts from £30,495 after the £1,500 Plug-in Car Grant has been taken into account. It is fitted with a 12.3-inch digital dial cluster, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard safety features include a reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane keep assist and smart high beam.

The mid-range Ventura bolsters the standard equipment list, adding a leather-trimmed steering wheel, fabric and imitation leather-trimmed seats, a nine-inch infotainment screen, TomTom sat nav and rear parking sensors. Prices start from £34,995. Costing more than £32,000, this model is not eligible for the government’s Plug-in Car Grant.

The Ultimate trim sits at the the top of the range, starting from £37,995. It gets an extended equipment list over the two lower models with heated and ventilated electrically adjustable leather seats, a powered tailgate, tinted rear windows, a wireless phone charger, plus front and rear parking sensors. The model is also fitted with a heat pump, which is used to cool or heat the battery – helping to improve range and charging times.

Design

The e-Motion version of the Korando looks largely similar to the petrol and diesel-powered models, with only a few subtle design tweaks. At the front there’s a blanked-out grille and new front bumper, which replace the majority of the air intakes found on the conventional models to improve aerodynamics.

Other design changes include blue contrasting trim on the front bumper, wing mirror caps and rear doors to allude to the car’s electric powertrain. A set of aerodynamic alloy wheels are also fitted, along with LED headlights that appear to feature slim blue trim inserts. The bonnet is made from aluminium to reduce weight and therefore improve range.

Powertrain and performance

The brand has confirmed the Korando e-Motion will be powered by a single electric motor and a 61.5kWh battery. This powertrain produces 187bhp, which will make it the most powerful option in the Korando lineup.

The EV will also be the fastest-accelerating Korando and is likely to be the quickest model from 0-62mph in the current SsangYong range. No figures have been revealed yet, but the company teased ‘best-in-class’ acceleration. The top speed will be a modest 95mph to help conserve battery range.

Range and charging

SsangYong says the Korando e-Motion will manage around 260 miles of range under the old NEDC lab-based testing cycle. We expect a WLTP real-world range closer to 200 miles, which would put it close to cars like the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense and the Nissan Leaf.

While the brand has not revealed any charging details, we expect that fast-charging and an accompanying app (to remotely charge the car and adjust the climate control) will be available, either as standard or as an option.
