Lithuania and Finland are increasing the number of charging options for electric cars at airports. At the Lithuanian airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, around 170 new charging points for electric vehicles will be installed in the coming years.
According to the announcement by the airport operator LTOU, these will mainly be AC chargers, but there will also be some DC chargers. It is one of the requirements of the international tender for the operator of the car parks, which Lithuanian airports are currently carrying out. The goal is to offer air travellers more comfort. The predominantly slow AC charging points make sense since it is primarily about charging during travel time.
But: 42 AC charging points are also planned for a short-term car park in front of the new departure terminal in Vilnius, which will open in 2025. Eight fast charging points with at least 75 kW are also planned there. 40 AC charging points will be installed at the long-term car parks in Vilnius. In Kaunas, 54 charging points (8x min. 75 kW) are planned, and in Palanga, 30 charging points (2x min. 75 kW). There are currently 18 charging points in car parks managed by LTOU, including four in Vilnius and another 14 in Kaunas.
Meanwhile, at Helsinki Airport, Finnair has opened two new parking halls, increasing the number of charging options at the Finnish capital’s airport by 250 to now 350. The third floor of the P2 parking hall is reserved for electric car charging. Additional new charging points are located in the “P1 Premium” area.
