► World debut confirmed for 24 May
► Fresh style – and brand-new infotainment
You’re looking at the first official pictures of the new Aston Martin DB sports car, confirmed for a world debut on Wednesday 24 May 2023.
New, bigger headlamps and a sporting grand tourer body are clearly visible in these moodily darkened images, revealing a car that continues seven and a half decades of the heartland DB model range.
Although it has not yet been formally named by Gaydon, the DB11 successor would logically be badged DB12 (a name previously confirmed by CAR magazine’s spymaster-in-chief Georg Kacher).
The next Aston Martin DB: a major digital overhaul
Three teaser photographs have been released: two shadowy exterior pics, plus a look inside the cabin showing what looks like a brand-new infotainment system unrelated to earlier touchscreens (see below). If would seem that Gaydon is going it alone, finally burying memories of old hand-me-down systems from Volvo and Mercedes-Benz.
The touchscreen is positioned on the centre console below the air vents, suggesting that Aston Martin is not planning an overbearing large screen that dominates the cabin. Tellingly, the first hand-out photos name-check Tobias Moers, the ousted chief whose phone still appears to be paired to the infotainment.
Note also the dual-function heating system: what’s branded Smart Climate lets occupants tap a digital button for ‘Warm feet’, ‘Cool cabin’ or ‘Warm hands’ – or use physical, gnurled rotary buttons for the climate control.
Like Porsche, Aston appears to be aiming for the best of both worlds, rather than ram all functionality into a digital screen.
What else do we know about the new DB?
In a statement, Aston Martin said: ‘Final preparations are underway as Aston Martin plans to unveil a new generation of the legendary DB bloodline on 24 May 2023, a landmark date heralding the start of the ultra-luxury British brand’s next generation.’
The company promises that ‘high-performance and ultra-luxury’ will continue to be core values for the next wave of sports cars developed under new owner Lawrence Stroll. ‘A generation that will see all Aston Martin models characterised by prodigious performance and pinpoint driving dynamics, seamless integration of advanced technologies and the sublime style and impeccable craftsmanship for which the brand has long been renowned.’
As well as being Aston Martin’s 110th year, 2023 marks 75 years of the DB bloodline. Stay tuned for the full story on the new Aston DB12, or whatever it’s going to be called, on 24 May.
