New 2023 Maserati Grecale: prices, specs and release date

The new Maserati Grecale is the famous Italian marque’s second SUV and one of its most important new cars in years. 

The mid-size Maserati Grecale SUV sits below the Levante in the Maserati line-up and is charged with giving the firm’s UK sales a real boost in 2023 and beyond.

The new 2023 Maserati Grecale is a premium alternative to SUVs such as the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Jaguar F-Pace. There will also be a pure electric version called the Maserati Grecale Folgore, which will take on the Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX3.

New Maserati Grecale prices start from £58,500 for the entry-level GT model. The new Maserati Grecale Modena is £64,500 and prices for the flagship Grecale Trofeo start from £95,590.

New 2023 Maserati Grecale: exterior and interior

The new Maserati Grecale features plenty of distinctive styling cues, from a bold grille with a huge 3D Maserati ‘trident’ logo in the centre, to the triple portholes on the front wings. The curves are smooth and the lines flowing, giving it a refined appearance – unless you choose one of the more vivid colours available, of course, such as the Giallo Corse yellow launch colour.

The ‘boomerang’ LED rear lights of the new Maserati Grecale reference the lamps of the classic Maserati 3200 GT coupe. Meanwhile, Modena and Trofeo versions have a 34mm wider track, giving them an even sportier stance from the rear.

Inside, the new Maserati Grecale combines luxury and technology with considerable success. It has a premium appearance, with lots of neatly-tailored leather and some eye-catching wood and carbon fibre trim options.

The new Maserati Grecale also has a digitised version of the famous Maserati clock, which sits in the centre of the dashboard. It looks a bit like a premium smartwatch, with an array of functionality – including voice recognition. Maserati calls it an in-car concierge.

Indeed, the new Maserati Grecale’s infotainment system is one of the stars of the show. There are dual touchscreens in the centre: a 12.3-inch main display and lower 8.8-inch panel. The Maserati Intelligent Assistant multimedia system combines with connectivity via Maserati Connect to deliver a very comprehensive and feature-packed setup.

The new Maserati Grecale’s upper screen is the main infotainment display. It has a crisp HD appearance and works in a slick and smooth manner. It also connects with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. The lower display controls functions such as the climate control air-con, and helps give the new Maserati Grecale’s dashboard a clean, mostly button-free look.

All new Maserati Grecales are well-equipped, with standard features including full LED headlights, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, active cruise control and generously-sized alloy wheels. The new Maserati Grecale GT has 19-inch alloy wheels, the Grecale Modena has 20-inch rims and the new Maserati Grecale Trofeo has 21-inch alloys.

The new Maserati Grecale has a roomy interior, with a commanding, SUV-style driving position combined with good space for adults in the rear. It also has a 570-litre boot in top-spec Trofeo guise. Other models have a 535-litre boot, as the mild hybrid system takes up some space beneath the boot floor.

Overall, the new Maserati Grecale measures a premium-sized 4.859mm long, 1,979mm wide (including the door mirrors) and 1,639mm tall.

The new Maserati Grecale petrol engine range offers a choice of three power outputs at launch, from 300PS to 530PS.

New 2023 Maserati Grecale: engines and gearboxes

The new Maserati Grecale petrol engine range offers a choice of three power outputs at launch – with even the entry-level Grecale GT boasting a tasty 300PS from its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. It serves up 0-62mph acceleration in just 5.6 seconds, while standard mild hybrid technology helps achieve average economy of 32.4mpg and CO2 emissions from 199g/km.

The new Maserati Grecale Modena has a 330PS version of the same engine. This is even faster, with 0-62mph taking 5.3 seconds, with similar fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Like all versions of the Grecale, four-wheel drive is standard, along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The range-topping new Maserati Grecale Trofeo has a thrilling 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, also seen in the exotic Maserati MC20 supercar. With 530PS, it’s capable of 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds and boasts a 177mph top speed. The price you pay for its howling engine note is average economy of around 25mpg.

The new Maserati Grecale has a bespoke Maserati Vehicle Dynamic Control Module, or VDCM. This has a choice of up to five drive modes: Comfort, GT, Sport, Corsa (only on the Trofeo) and Off-Road. The new Maserati Grecale will be more capable than some might expect off-road, partly thanks to standard features such as hill-descent control.

The new Maserati Grecale comes with optional air suspension, which is standard on the top-spec Trofeo. In Off-Road mode, it automatically raises by 20mm to improve ground clearance; in Sport mode, it lowers 15mm for better handling. There’s also a special Parking mode, which lowers the car by 35mm, making it easier to get in and out.

The future new Maserati Grecale Folgore, the firm’s first electric SUV, will feature a large 105kWh battery. The company isn’t yet disclosing a range, but it should offer more than 300 miles between charges, along with electrifying performance.
