Seventh Paid Service – Details
The regular service was done, mineral oil used as usual, oil filter changed, routine periodic maintenance of brakes and other parts done. I skipped the wheel rotation, alignment and balancing. Decided to get that done from outside. The SA called me about the silencer/ exhaust having holes and rust issues. Seems like the work done last year didn’t hold up properly so I decided not to spend anymore money on that now. If it gets too ‘holey’ I’ll sacrifice it to the car Gods and go for an SS or FFE one.
One of the major work authorised was the replacement of old leaking evaporator coil which was the culprit in the low cooling. I was given back the old coil and I have to say that after using the car for about 100 kms post replacement the AC cooling has come back to its old self. Its quite chilling at 24 deg Celsius with fan speed at 2 and only me inside. However, I will give a final verdict on the issue after long trips in the sun with full capacity. Till then I’ll remain skeptical.
So as said above, I decided to get rid of the windshield fogging issue resolved for once and all. It was bothering me very much. I was very much wary of the start of rattling saga once the factory fit was messed with but the irritation of the fogging was almost on par if not a bit more.
So trusting my SA’s promise that there won’t be any rattles, I gave the go ahead. I received one very short video of the service and a picture of the dismantled dashboard on whatsapp from SA. They kept Panda overnight and completed the works by 24th afternoon and I was asked to come by 4 PM to collect the car. I was there by 4:30 – 5 PM and as usual the car was not ready. Well everything cannot be on point with HASS, right?
So, I wait in their lounge, and I had my son with me, so they brought him a pack of oreo and latte for me and said it will take 10-15 mins. After about half an hour, I was told my Panda was ready and we went off for the test drive. SA was driving and I was on the passenger seat praying to all the Gods that let there be no rattles please. Thankfully there were none. The SA has made good on his promise. He even asked me where I want to go on a rough road drive to make sure that there are no rattles and I said that I will do on my own. I have to say that these guys had confidence in their work.
So a very happy me was thinking about going on a drive with my family sometime soon when I was suddenly startled by a loud rubbing noise from the left front wheel area. There goes all my peace and I pointed it out to SA immediately. He was however looking out for traffic that he missed it and I told him we have one more right hand turn coming up and then you will hear it. As soon as we turned right there it was a long rubbing sound from the+wheel well area. This time he heard it too and he said he will call the mechanic. I went with the mechanic for a test drive and on left turns there was no sound but on right turns the same rubbing sound. He also acknowledged the issue and took the car back to service bay while me and my son again waited in the lounge.
In 10 mins they called us back saying everything was resolved, and the rubbing sound was due to some dirt getting trapped behind the plate that covers the brake disc and it was rubbing when the wheel turned. I was not sure whether this was the truth or they left something in there while servicing, anyway the issue was resolved. It have never happened again.
So I decided to take Panda home and the final bill amount came to Rs. 12,494/-. This included the replacement of evaporator coil, engine oil and filter and all the labour involved including the removal and resetting of dashboard. I was given 20% discount on labour due to some camp offer. Also I was give a coupon for a free 80 point inspection and wash valid within six months or 5000 kms.
On inspection back at home, it was seen that several grease spots/ smudges were on the body and thankfully not inside. So overall I would give Popular Hyundai, Karakkamandapam, Trivandrum 9.5/10 for the service.
The Odo stands at 51200 kms. I’ll include some pictures in the wheel rotation, alignment and balancing post.
