Morgan Motor Company was founded way back in 1910 in Malvern.
British automaker Morgan is marking 110 years with a range of special anniversary models. Why 110 years? Well, it seems like just the kind of oddball choice we’d expect from throwback Morgan.
Morgan Motor Company was founded way back in 1910 in Malvern. Which is somewhere in the UK, that we’d guess is hidden in a picturesque valley behind some sheds and hedges that were first planted before settlers crossed the Atlantic. Back then, they built three-wheeled cars powered by motorcycle engines, with H.F.S. Morgan actually building his first in 1908. Today, they build three-wheeled cars powered by motorcycle engines. Hrmm.
To show off for 110 years, or more likely to make a polite nod and a throat clearing, the company is making special editions of three of its four models.
The classic 3 Wheeler is already like nothing else on the road and it’s hard not to look like you’ve just arrived from the 1930s in one. The 110th 3 Wheeler is available in all of the car’s solid colour choices and comes with black trim. That means black roll bar hoops, black exhaust heat shields, and in place of the chrome engine cowl on the standard car is one in body colour.
The company dropped the V8-engine Plus Eight earlier this year, so currently makes three four-wheeled cars. Though it’s not always easy to tell which of the wood-framed cars is which.
The 4/4 is left out of the anniversary changes, but the Plus 4 and Roadster both see some fitting appointments.
The Plus 4 is the mid-range car, though all the Morgan four-wheelers look the same so you’d be forgiven for not knowing which is which. It comes with a 2.0L four that makes 154 hp. The anniversary version wears 110th Anniversary badges but gets some more significant changes. Like a new front valence, rear sports exhaust, and a leather bonnet strap. Inside it has a leather or wood-rim Moto-Lita steering wheel, sports seats, a mohair roof, and Yarwood leather. Owners can choose to have the 110 Anniversary logo embroidered in the headrests in matching or contrast stitch.
It also gets special quilted stitching for the leather, centre split seats, more storage pockets, and a mohair tonneau cover all included. More importantly for buyers, all of those anniversary extras are at no extra cost. Quite good then.
Roadster buyers, along with their more powerful 280 hp V6, also get the same extras all at no additional charge.
Morgan says that the specials are just the start of a series of announcements the company will make through their 110th year.
