The Chery Tiggo 2 Pro is “being considered” for a South African introduction in 2025 as a more affordable entry point for the brand, the Chinese automaker’s domestic arm confirmed to TopAuto.
The Tiggo 2 Pro is the smallest crossover that Chery currently produces and is on sale in a variety of countries in Asia and South America, but not yet in Africa.
However, due to the popularity of its larger sibling, the Tiggo 4 Pro, in the local market, the Tiggo 2 Pro’s introduction is not yet set in stone and it is possible that it may not be coming to our roads at all.
“With the success of Tiggo 4 Pro, we are exploring options to expand the range, and this may cause an overlap with Tiggo 2 Pro in certain aspects,” said Chery.
Thus, should the company choose to increase the variety of the Tiggo 4 Pro portfolio, which currently retails from R279,900 to R408,900, there may be no space for the Tiggo 2 Pro to compete in the catalogue.
For reference, the Tiggo 2 Pro currently starts at ₱840,000 (R278,000) in the Philippines, while the cheapest Tiggo 4 Pro in the Southeast Asian nation retails from ₱1,140,000 (R378,000).
Tiggo 2 Pro specifications
Like most of Chery’s products, the Tiggo 2 Pro is well equipped and offers several segment-leading features.
In Asia, it is available with a D-shaped multifunction steering wheel, leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a 9-inch central touchscreen with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay, four speakers, keyless entry and start, cruise control, a reversing camera, reversing sensors, an electronic parking brake, hill-descent control, and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
It also sports a dot-matrix grille akin to the rest of the Tiggo-branded SUVs, LED daytime running lights, headlights with a follow-me-home function, “3D hollow smoked” LED taillights, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
In markets such as the Philippines, the Tiggo 2 Pro makes do with a 1.5-litre petrol engine married to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) turning the front axle.
The setup is good for 81kW and 140Nm, and is capable of pushing the crossover to a top speed of 185km/h.
In terms of its physical dimensions, the smallest Chery on the market measures 4,200mm long, 1,760mm wide, and 1,570mm tall with a ground clearance of 157mm and boot capacity of 420 litres.
With these measurements, it’s perfectly poised to take on the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Suzuki Fronx, and VW T-Cross.
