Motorists will need to spend at least R1,517 per month on insurance if they decide to pick up the new Suzuki Fronx, according to research done by TopAuto.
The Fronx is Suzuki’s new entry-level SUV, filling the gap in the market left by the discontinued Vitara Brezza alongside another recently launched vehicle – the Grand Vitara.
Based on the Baleno hatchback, the Fronx is available in two trim levels with manual and automatic options, resulting in a total of four units with prices ranging from R279,900 to R335,900.
It runs on a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 77kW and 138Nm, and opting for the five-speed manual will net a fuel consumption return of 5.5l/100km, while the automatic uses a slightly higher 5.7l/100km.
On the base Fronx GL, standard equipment comprises automatic LED headlights, black 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, hill assist, cruise control, a reverse camera, a 7-inch media screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ABS, and two airbags.
The range-topping GLX then adds keyless entry and start, a heads-up display, a 4.2-inch driver’s display, a 360-degree camera system, a wireless charger, and four additional airbags to the equipment list.
Each purchase also comes with a 5-year/200,000km warranty and a 4-year/60,000km service plan.
Insurance costs
We used Hippo’s car insurance quote tool to find out what the monthly insurance premiums on the new Suzuki would be.
The calculations were based on an individual living in a metropolitan area like Johannesburg with no claims history who would be able to store their car in a locked garage at night.
Below, you’ll find the five insurance quotes for the Fronx’s lowest and highest trim levels, as provided by Hippo:
Insurer | Suzuki GL manual monthly premiums | Suzuki GLX auto monthly premiums |
---|---|---|
Budget | R1,517.01 | R1,614.71 |
1st for Women | R1,582.24 | R1,679.47 |

Dial Direct | R1,612.79 | R1,709.10 |
Virseker | R1,636.66 | R1,739.38 |
Note that car insurance is heavily dependent on factors like your age, location, and claims history, meaning your premiums could be higher or lower than this depending on your circumstances.
Hippo also detailed the excess for each insurer, which are as follows:
Insurer | Excess claim |
---|---|
1st for Women | R8,500 |
Auto & General | R8,500 |
Dial Direct | R8,500 |
Virseker | R8,500 |
