Mitsubishi Motors Corporation recently unveiled its XRT Concept in Thailand wearing a funky camo and beefy body. Under the surface, the bakkie previews the highly anticipated 2024 Mitsubishi Triton.

The concept, which recently made its debut at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor, showcases the future design direction for the popular bakkie, and it’s clear that Mitsubishi is aiming to make a big splash with the new Triton (also known as L200 in other markets).
The XRT Concept features a bold and aggressive design, with sharp lines and a muscular stance that exudes confidence and power. Under the camouflage which conceals all exterior components, the front grille looks larger and more pronounced than the current model, giving the vehicle a more imposing presence. The headlights are sleek and feed into the firm’s Dynamic Shield fascia, and the overall design of the bakkie seems more streamlined, which should help improve overall performance.

This new bakkie boasts a rugged double cab body style with a snorkel and two spare tyres in the bed, as well as Ralliart branding and off-road rubber tyres. The final split headlight design is currently concealed by camouflage, while the black-tinted taillights blend seamlessly with the body wrap.
Technical specifications are yet to be confirmed although it is thought that the updated ladder frame chassis will be shared with the next-generation Navara. The less ludicrous 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is expected to have a longer wheelbase, a potentially larger bed and drum brakes on its rear wheels. This expected model also features swollen wheel arches, a sports bar, and large side mirrors, making it a formidable competitor to the likes of the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok.

Mitsubishi’s recently released product roadmap for 2028 suggests that the new Triton will be powered by a “next-generation diesel” engine with some form of electrification likely to be added in order to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations. This may take the form of a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The expected bakkie is set to make its racing debut during the Asia Cross Country Rally 2023, where Team Mitsubishi Ralliart will race a prototype. The production-ready model will be available to buy in Thailand during the fiscal year 2023, from April 2023 to March 2024. Overall, the XRT Concept looks to be a promising glimpse of the future for the Mitsubishi Triton, with its bold styling and advanced engineering sure to make it a popular choice for drivers in the coming years.
