The recently unveiled Mitshubishi XFC is only a concept, but it previews a sleek and small crossover coming in 2023 that we hope the production version will retain some semblance of.

The age-old story applies, a tantalisingly beautiful concept model will debut portraying the best technology and features available to a brand with unlimited creative freedom on design. Of course, in many mass vehicles, this is not commercially viable to keep costs affordable to consumers so what ends up happening is a dumbed-down version will go into production.
That means that the sleek-looking Mitsubishi XFC Concept will probably not retain the 20-inch wheels, side-mounted cameras or intricate LED exterior lighting. But if it retains its overall form, it will still be a visually attractive proposition for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets in which it will initially be offered.

Unveiled in Ho Chi Min City, Mitsubishi claim that the latest model is a “best-suited buddy for an exciting life” with a “silky and solid” design. No technical specification is available at the moment but in terms of its aesthetics, the Mitsubishi XFC retains the front-end design language prominent throughout the Japanese firms existing range. This includes L-shaped LED headlights and octagonal fog lights on the lower portion of the front bumper.
The interior is as sculpted as the exterior and in front of the driver are two side-by-side screens while a HVAC has a separate control system. The specific concept includes bright yellow material on the seat to contrast the light-coloured interior.

If the small crossover proves to be a success in ASEAN markets from 2023 onwards, it will be offered to others outside the region and potentially South Africa too. considering our craze for SUVs, it may bolster passenger sales for the brand too.
It may be a concept, but as far as recent crossovers go, this is on the shortlist for one of the most attractive. Watch its launch video here.
