After spending the summer watching all the Marvel movies in chronological order (not by release date) with my kids, I can’t stop thinking about them!

And while I could spend far too long talking about my favourite characters and different parts of the intricate movies, not to mention all the new shows on Disney+, there’s really no better way to cure some Marvel-withdrawal than by talking or writing about it, at every possible chance, even if it means doing a review dedicated to just that. Sorry in advance, there may be a few spoilers, especially if you have yet to watch any of the films.

The Marvel universe is filled with fancy cars, especially those that belong to Tony Stark. But who cares about Tony’s supercars when you can drive a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Pinnacle?

[Crickets.]

I know, I know, most people — aside from me — think minivans are far from cool, and for argument’s sake, they could use an upgrade in the looks department. But the Pacifica Hybrid is cool, trust me, I know what I’m talking about — I’m the cool mom.

The Pacifica Hybrid is basically a bunch of Marvel superheroes all bundled together into one $60k minivan — c’mon, you didn’t expect a superhero minivan to be any cheaper than that, did you? The Pacifica Hybrid may not be a super-soldier with a shield, and it’s definitely not a God of Thunder (with its hybrid capabilities, it could be the God of Lightning, though, even if that’s not great for marketing) worthy of throwing a mjölnir . However, it does have a lot of similar abilities to many of the other Marvel heroes.

The Incredible Hulk

Plain and simple, this minivan is big and bulky, just like the Incredible Hulk.

While Hulk weighs well over 1,000 pounds, the minivan weighs in at almost 5,000 pounds. Hulk is somewhere between seven and eight feet tall, which means he’s over 2,000 mm. The overall height of the Pacifica Hybrid is 1,777 mm and overall length is 5,189 mm, meaning even someone as tall as Hulk could fit into it — though maybe not comfortably.

Unfortunately, there’s no option for green paint, nor does this minivan bust out of its clothes (technically, it doesn’t wear clothes) and it definitely doesn’t “Hulk SMASH!” But it does have a lot of room for junk in the trunk (915L with all the seats up; 3,797L with all the rear seats down) and, well, so does the big guy.

Hawkeye

Hawkeye isn’t as similar to the Pacifica Hybrid as he is to me — both of us have three kids and need an ample amount of space in our preferred family vehicle. The hybrid minivan seats up to seven (though the non-hybrid can seat up to eight) with two captain’s chairs in the second row. All the seats are comfortable and spacious, and though the minivan doesn’t shoot arrows, I can’t guarantee that there won’t be other things being thrown around by my kids.

The loss of the second row’s Stow ‘N Go seats (which we’ll get back to in a bit) means car-seat installation and removal is a tad bit more difficult. You can’t simply fold the seat down to jump into the back; you’ll need to climb through the decent amount of space in between the seats in order to get to the LATCH systems in the third row.

It may not be the coolest-looking car in the world, but if your dad is Hawkeye, I don’t think it matters what car he’s driving. It’s automatically, by default, the coolest one.

Spider-Man

The only downside, and I’m sure Clint Barton would agree, is that due to the hybrid losing its second row’s Stow ‘N Go seats, it’s not as efficient. The seats need to be completely removed in order to gain complete access to the maximum amount of cargo space.

Instead, like Peter Parker in the new Spider-Man: No Way Home , it’s not as discreet. In the new movie, Peter’s mask has been completely removed and the public now knows his true identity, and it just makes things a little — okay, a lot — more complicated than it was before, probably just as complicated as these bulky seats. Where would you even store them?

Can’t we figure out a way to bring back the Stow ‘N Go seats (and the vacuum)? Ahead of seeing the movie, both the Pacifica Hybrid and the third film in this franchise are doing a great job of keeping me in suspense wondering how (and if) these problems will be resolved in the future.

Will turning back the time erase everyone’s memories so they no longer know Spider-Man’s true identity? Can the Pacifica hybrid figure out another way to return the second row’s Stow ‘N Go, a vital part of what makes this vehicle family-friendly? What about the Stow ‘N Vac? Where did it go? Will I ever stop being so dramatic? No one knows.

Loki

Loki — God of Mischief, brother of Thor — has quite a few similarities to the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, specifically in the Pinnacle trim. Just like Loki has long lived in his brother’s shadow, the Pacifica Hybrid must now carve its own path, straying away from its brother, the non-hybrid Pacifica.

Additionally, both are tricksters, and I don’t mean the funny kind. I’m talking about the fact that they can both easily disguise themselves to be something they’re not. I won’t give any Loki  spoilers, but I will say that just like this top Pinnacle trim, everything isn’t always what it seems with Loki.

The Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid each have a top trim called the Pinnacle, but they are vastly different. Aside from having different power trains and engines (for obvious reasons, being that one is a hybrid, and one isn’t) much of the technology and interior aspects are quite different. Since I drove the Pacifica (non-hybrid) before the Pacifica Hybrid, I was expecting quite a bit from the PHEV.

Instead, I soon realized that in addition to the missing Stow ‘N Go seats and vacuum, it’s also missing the buttons in the trunk that automatically fold the rear seats down.

It’s still got a bunch of other high-tech features and safety aids — nothing that’s worthy of the technologically-advanced nation of Wakanda — but those missing things made it seem like a trim that shouldn’t be dubbed the Pinnacle — I’m thinking more along the lines of the Pinnacle Lite?

And don’t even get me started on its tricky PHEV status, at least not until next section.

Groot

“I am Groot. I am Groot. I am Groot.” It’s like this minivan is saying one thing, over and over, with minor adjustments in tone. It’s somewhat stubborn, especially like the teenage Groot.

Sure, the Pacifica’s got its own set of hidden talents and tricks up its sleeves sliding doors, but its inability to provide the option of going into all-electric mode is stifling, to say the least. It has the capacity to do so much more, and yet it won’t. The Pacifica Hybrid in all-electric mode is rated at 2.9 Le/100 km, which is awesome, except for the fact that I was rarely able to achieve an average of anything remotely close to that. The EV mode seemed to kick in for me when I was on the highway, which isn’t when I needed it most. I could go weeks without using the highway, but I’ll always need to go on short drives to my kids’ school and the grocery store, and that’s when I’d like to be able to use the EV mode. But like a teenage Groot, this minivan was doing its own thing and really didn’t care what I wanted.

Regardless of the non-existent EV mode, I didn’t have to find a charging station. The minivan managed to recharge itself from zero to a full 100 per cent during my short drives around the city, but unfortunately, I never managed to use that full charge since I never made it back to the highway.

(I was going to talk about the similarities between regenerative braking and Iron Man’s arc reactor, but that’s far too complicated to explain. Feel free to read Jil McIntosh’s explanation .)

Doctor Strange

Similar to the way Doctor Strange has the ability to sense and see other realms, the FamCam gives me the option to see what’s happening in the back seat. But the real questions is: do I really want to know what’s happening back there? Someone’s timeline will probably be changed, and they’ll be sent straight to the realm of his/her bedroom for the rest of the night.

Personally, I find the FamCam very distracting. I don’t really want to be able to see what my kids are doing, but if I did, it’s not a simple button that turns on that feature.

Wanda (Scarlett Witch) and Vision

I was going to separate these two characters, but you know, WandaVision — I don’t want them separated.

Anyway, Wanda has the ability to move objects, and the Pacifica is a minivan that literally moves objects (and people), and quite smoothly and comfortably, I might add. Both Wanda and the hybrid are extremely powerful, and they both look good in red, but there’s another major thing they have in common — their love of superhuman intelligence and senses. For Wanda, that’s Vision, but for the Pacifica, that’s all the high-tech safety features, like the 360 surround-view camera and forward collision warning with active braking. It’s always nice to have a good back-up camera, but especially awesome in the bigger cars (I know I could also use the extra help when backing into a tight spot).

What If…?

Over the past year, we were blessed with Black Widow , Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings , Eternals and finally, Spider-Man: No Way Home (out December 17). And if that wasn’t enough, Disney+ gave us WandaVision , Loki , What If…?, and, most recently, Hawkeye , not to mention a whole slew of projects for 2022.

So, here’s my question to the Pacifica-verse (also known as Chrysler-Stellantis): what if the Pacifica Hybrid Pinnacle wasn’t called the Pinnacle? What if… there was a way to switch to an EV mode, making me content with the loss of the Stow ‘N Go seats, the vacuum, and the automatic back seats? You can even remove the useless rear-seat entertainment. In an alternate universe – or maybe for 2023 – could that be possible?

Actually, much like Marvel is consistently giving us more, I’d like all of the above built into one, thus creating the ideal minivan — a true family-hauler, something worthy of the Pinnacle title. Though, for what it’s worth, and that’s quite a bit, this PHEV will get the job done and probably satisfy the needs of most large Canadian families.
