KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has upped the luxury and exclusive levels of its line-up with the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 limousine and GLS 600 sports utility vehicle (SUV).
Designed as chauffeur-driven vehicles with maximum comfort for rear passengers, the S 580 and GLS 600 are priced from RM1,928,815 and RM1,789,453 respectively.

The S 580 shares its underpinnings with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class but features a wheelbase that is 18cm longer than the extended wheelbase variant of the S-Class.
The S 580 comes with the Maybach grille featuring upright chrome slats, the Maybach logo on the C-pillars, new Digital Light headlamps and large 21-inch Maybach multi-spoke forged wheels.

Maybach Exclusive nappa leather upholstery is standard while Executive rear seats come with generous legroom, calf massage feature and as well as seat cushion airbags to counteract “submarining” under the fastened seat belt and beltbags.
The second generation of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), featuring up to five screens, can also recognise movements and gestures by the rear passengers with the help of 3D laser cameras in the roof liner.
MBUX high-end rear entertainment has two 11.6-inch displays with touch controls on the rear of the front seat backrests.

Powering the S 580 is a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine delivering 503hp and 700Nm of torque and an integrated second-generation integrated starter-alternator (ISG) with a 48-volt onboard electrical system.
The ISG gives an extra 15kW and 200Nm of torque for more efficiency and “gliding” when driving at constant speed.

Transmission is the nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic with 4Matic all-wheel drive system, while Airmatic air suspension, Road Surface Scan, E-Active Body Control and rear-wheel steering add to travelling comfort and maneuverability.
Despite its size, the S 580 is a quick vehicle and can do the 0-100kph sprint in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph.

Adding to its list of safety devices are Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist and Active Distance Assist Distronic among others.
Meanwhile, the GLS 600 is based on the Mercedes-Benz GLS but had the third row seats removed to increase space for second row passengers.
Like in the S 580, the Executive rear seats can be used as an office and as a private relaxation zone.

Its MBUX Rear Seat Entertainment System consists of two 11.6-inch touchscreens that feature an integrated web browser.
The GLS 600 also features the Maybach grille with upright slats but gets the Multibeam LED headlights and 23-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels instead.

The SUV also comes with electrically extending running boards that make entry and exit the high seating position both convenient and safe.
The dashboard instrument cluster and centre media display are the 12.3-inch type that share a continuous glass pane to form a large free-standing widescreen.

The upholstery in nappa black or nappa mahogany brown/macchiato beige as standard ensure a very high perceived value.
The GLS 600 also gets a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with 557hp and 730Nm of torque along with an ISG system that delivers additional 16kW and 200Nm.
The large SUV is also fast and can do the 0-100kph sprint in 4.9 seconds and gets a top speed of 250kph.

Also included are Airmatic air suspension with Adaptive Damping System Plus and E-Active Body Control suspension.
