Local trademark confirms looming launch of opulent new Mercedes-Maybach personalisation program
Australian Mercedes-Maybach customers are in the box seat to gain access to a new level of vehicle customisation through Daimler AG’s upcoming ‘Haute Voiture’ personalisation program, which will be launched here early next year with the release of the “strictly limited” 2023 Mercedes-Maybach Haute Voiture.
Previewed in “near-production” form late last week at an exclusive event in southern France, the Mercedes-Maybach Haute Voiture is a bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S-Class decked out with a series of exclusive, fashion-inspired colour and material combinations aimed at enticing more of the world’s rich and famous away from other super-opulent rivals, including Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
Finished in an eye-catching ‘dark nautical blue’ and ‘light, shimmering rose’ two-tone paint job, the concept Mercedes-Maybach Haute Voiture will be used as the catalyst to launch the new personalisation program and is just one of perhaps thousands of different design combinations customers will be able to choose from.
According to Mercedes, “the sensual and unusual colour combination sets the stage for the true showpiece on the automotive catwalk – the interior”.
Designed to combine luxury motoring with haute couture, the interior is awash with white and dark nautical blue Nappa leather, rose gold trim and white faux fur (door pockets, inlay mats and scatter cushion) while the rear of the cabin cocoons its two occupants and their seats in a sea of blue, beige, rose gold and gold hued fabric.
Even the MBUX infotainment system has come in for a catwalk-inspired makeover; featuring gold and sparkling treatments on every control, plus exclusive graphics for each of those functions.
“The near-series Concept Mercedes-Maybach Haute Voiture provides a preview of a new, limited special edition that combines automotive luxury with haute couture,” said Daimler.
“It marks the new pinnacle of Sophisticated Luxury and heralds a new era of exclusivity for the tradition-rich brand.
“Haute Voiture combines the aesthetics and craftsmanship typical of the brand with unusual, fashion-inspired colour and material combinations.”
There’s been no indication yet on exactly how much all this will cost, but we’re willing to bet it’s a lot more than the $574,000 starting price for the standard Mercedes-Maybach S 680 limousine, which will be released Down Under in June.
We expect the Haute Voiture version and options to become available in Australia some time after that, given Daimler AG has patented both the nameplate and an emblem with IP Australia.
For reference, the application was filed under Classes nine (sat-nav and infotainment), 12 (vehicles and parts thereof), 14 (precious metals), 18 (leather and imitation leather) and 25 (clothing and accessories).
Exactly how well-heeled Aussies will be able to advantage of the German brand’s personalisation program – via dealers, online, etc – remains to be seen, but we won’t be surprised if a Mercedes-Maybach GLS Haute Voiture also breaks cover between now and the launch of the new upmarket initiative.
