The new Mercedes EQS has arrived in South Africa, and becomes the first AMG badged all-electric model from the German automaker. Sharing some roots with the sumptuous S-Class, it provides a more sustainable option to luxurious mobility but with all of the same power available on tap. Here is local pricing and specification.

An interior dominated by the Hyperscreen
Modern vehicle interiors are brimmed with technology. The easiest way to operate all of these features are through digital screens. Mercedes has taken this to the next level with the Hyperscreen and as the name states, the dashboard is festooned with several beneath a single glass housing. Spanning from A-pillar to A-pillar, the interior will receive this MBUX Hyperscreen which comes standard on the EQS 53 is an undeniable highlight as mobility moves closer to autonomy. Three screens are housed within the glass expanse, with a 12,3-inch OLED display fore of the front passenger, one for the driver and one controlling the MBUX infotainment system.
No range anxiety with the sleek EQS
The sumptious and silent Mercedes is shaped in the name of efficiency, and as a result has become the most aerodynamically efficient production vehicle ever produced. With a c d value of as low as 0.20, the model is able to travel as much as 782 km in the EQS 450+ according to WLTP. Despite this, the MBUX has been programmed to notify the driver whether the vehicle will be able to travel to its standard charging point, if levels are low.

The EV can be charged with up to 200 kW at fast charging stations with direct current. At home or at public charging stations, the EQS can be conveniently charged with up to 22 kW with AC using the on-board charger. The significant range is compliments of one of the largest lithium-ion batteries ever fitted to an electric vehicle and has an energy content of 107.8 kWh.
Sibling of the S-Class
“The EQS is an innovative and intelligent car, unmatched in exclusivity. It’s the S-Class of electric cars,” says Mark Raine. It may share some of its roots with the fossil-fuel powered luxury-land barge but the EQS has been exclusively developed on an all-electric architecture.
