Mercedes-AMG is gearing up for the reveal of a new “all-electric performance showcar” and has teased the May 19 intro with a line drawing of the car’s profile.
Actually, it was Mercedes-Benz chief design officer Gorden Wagener who posted the images of the upcoming EV to Instagram. It must be good for the follower count to get regrammed by @MercedesAMG.
The Vision AMG concept should provide a glimpse at how Mercedes’ performance wing AMG will approach the world of electric sports cars. Little information is included in the post, other than a basic outline of a car with a uniquely sharp front end, a low-slung profile, and a fastback finish similar to that of the Vision EQXX concept, which currently holds the title of the most efficient Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Will it be passing the crown?
Mercedes-Benz big boss Ola Kaellenius provided a little more context at the Financial Times’ Future of the Car Summit.
“We are now in full development of a fully dedicated electric architecture for AMG, from the ground up,” he said. “Next week, we will show what we think the electric performance world will look like when it’s made by AMG. That’s hot off the press for you today, so stay tuned for some announcements that we will make next week. We will give you a glimpse of AMG performance as all-electric.”
This latest Vision AMG concept follows Mercedes-AMG’s recent polarizing collaboration with Black Eyed Peas artist will.i.am, a funky coupe with a G-Wagen front end and suicide doors.
