It seems Mercedes-AMG fans in Australia have a strong love for the V8.
Mercedes-AMG is waving goodbye to legendary V8 models with a Final Edition package in Australia that brings unique styling touches and details to the C63 S Coupe and Convertible, as well as the E63 S Sedan.
Let's begin with the E-Class derivative, which gains a Manufaktur Graphite Gray magno exterior finish. The sinister hue adds to the overall menace of the E63 S and is uplifted by stunning 20-inch AMG cross-spoke wheels. An exterior carbon fiber package underlines the sportiness of the M5 rival, along with unique side decals.
Mercedes does not mention powertrain refinements, but that's not a big deal. After all, the E63 S produces a staggering 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The Final Edition package does, however, include AMG ceramic brakes, which should come in handy under hard driving.
Inside, you'll find AMG Performance front seats upholstered in Nappa leather. The sporty pews can be specified in gray or black with yellow stitching. A chunky AMG Performance steering wheel is trimmed in leather and grippy Dinamica (a suede-like material).
You won't find any wood trim here. Carbon fiber festoons the trim inlays, adding to the sporty feel. Other nice-to-haves include Multibeam LED headlights, MBUX augmented navigation, and a Driving Assistance Package. An AMG badge can be found on the C-pillar and is complemented by a Final Edition emblem on the center console.
In Australia, buyers can expect to pay AU$ 39,900 (approx. $28,460) for the package, meaning a total cost in the region of $222,000 for the E63 S Sedan Final Package.
If that's a bit too rich for you, perhaps the C63 S Coupe and Cabriolet are better suited to your tastes. Both Final Edition C63 variants receive the same Graphite Gray magno paintwork but more vivid yellow and dark gray side decals, a nod to the same details on the launch edition for this generation.
The Exterior Carbon Package is present on the C-Class AMG twins, along with the tasteful cross-spoke wheels. AMG has gone for a staggered wheel setup; 19-inch alloys up front and 20-inch items at the rear. Again, the 4.0-liter V8 hasn't been tuned to provide more power, but the ceramic front brakes aid stopping abilities.
Interior upholstery embellishments are identical to the E63 S Sedan Final Edition, but the C63 models receive dark aluminum and matte carbon fiber inlays, along with Final Edition center console badging. The Coupe derivative benefits from the Aerodynamics package and AMG badging on the C-pillar.
The Final Edition package retails for AU$ 26,400 (approx. $18,785) for the Cabriolet and AU$ 28,400 (approx. $20,200) for the Coupe.
While Mercedes hasn't specified an exact figure, the automaker has said these vehicles will be made available in limited numbers. We're hoping the US market receives a few of these Final Edition models, especially with the latest C-Class AMG adopting a turbocharged four-cylinder motor with plug-in hybrid assistance. It would be a rather fitting goodbye to an engine that has garnered fans worldwide.
It's not just AMG that's mourning the loss of this great motor. Manhart Performance has bid the C63 goodbye with a 700-hp send-off, while Performmaster has also worked its magic on the legendary sedan.
