Mercedes-Benz has just taken the covers off its latest creation with a somewhat surprisingly subdued reveal on its G-specific “Private Lounge” website. Meet the all-new 4×4² monster truck, for those who feel the regular G63 AMG SUV is not ridiculous enough.
It’s the successor to the Mercedes-AMG 6X6 and the previous-gen 4×4², and looks just as imposing with that trademark lifted stance. However, it also boasts a few crucial improvements.
The engine is still the familiar twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. However, it now makes a thumping 585 hp. That’s 163 hp more than the previous-gen model, enough to make this the most powerful iteration of the 4×4². Also, unlike the previous-generation 4×4 Squared based on the standard G550, the new model takes its underpinnings from the Mercedes-AMG G63 SUV.
Ground clearance measures 13.8 inches, and fording depth is 35.8 inches. Both of those are a few inches less than its predecessor’s figures. However, the new 4×4² should still be the most capable yet, thanks to an overhauled suspension setup and the addition of portal axles, among other tweaks.
The design language stays true to the brand’s off-road heritage, with elements like the exaggerated carbon-fibre fender flares and massive 22-inch wheels sporting a new design. The carbon-fibre theme continues on the off-road light housing on the roof, as well as the spare tire carrier.

The options list includes a roof rack, rear ladder, and carbon-trimmed rub strips. For the cabin, you can expect luxurious trimmings with additional ambient lighting in the vents and Nappa leather. A host of high-end materials are available through Mercedes’ G Manufaktur program, allowing each buyer to create a truly bespoke interior space.
The new Mercedes-AMG 4×4² will be a limited series model. Pricing information is not available, but you can be sure interested clients are already making moves to secure build slots, especially as this model is being advertised as the ‘last of its kind.’ It could well be the last fully gas-powered AMG G-Class, presenting an opportunity brand loyalists would not want to miss.
