Not long after its global reveal, Australian pricing and specifications for the Mazda CX-90 have been released. The CX-90 is priced from $74,385 plus on-road costs – or $26,785 more than the entry-level CX-9 Sport that it replaces – and will arrive in three specification levels in Australia. Both petrol and diesel power will be available, with new 3.3-litre inline-six engines in both fuel types – including Mazda’s most powerful ever production engine. The CX-90 will land in August 2023.
“First-Ever Mazda CX-90 – the largest and most luxurious SUV ever to lead the Mazda range – is now available to order, ahead of its arrival in Australia from August.” said the company.
“A choice of three comprehensively appointed model grades in the form of Touring, GT and Azami each showcase a culmination of expert craftsmanship and ‘dignified beauty’ of Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy.”
Measuring 5,100mm long, 1,994mm wide and with a 3,120mm long wheelbase, the Mazda CX-90 is 25mm longer, 25mm wider and sits on a 190mm longer wheelbase than the CX-9 it replaces. Behind the third row of seating is a 608-litres of space (including under floor storage), 1,163L with the third row folded (including under floor storage) and folding the third- and second-row of seating unlocks a huge 2,025L of space.
Two engines will be available in the Mazda CX-90: the ‘D50e’ 3.3-litre turbocharged straight-six diesel making 187kW of power and 550Nm of torque and the ‘P50e’ 3.3-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol making 254kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to 48V mild-hybrid systems, all-wheel drive and new eight-speed automatic transmissions. The diesel is rated at just 5.4L/100km on a combined cycle with emissions of 143g/km – the petrol is rated at 8.2L/100km and 189g/km.
Standard kit on the entry-level Touring includes 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting, auto wipers, keyless entry and start with a hands-free tailgate, heated and auto-folding mirrors, leather upholstery, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with driver’s memory functionality, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, digital radio, an eight-speaker sound system, tri-zone climate control, a 150W AC outlet, USB-C ports, a wireless phone charger, an auto-dimming rear mirror and integrated rear door sunshades.
Safety equipment includes eight airbags (including a front centre unit), auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and intersection assist, adaptive cruise control with stop an go functionality, lane keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition, a heads-up display, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, auto high beam, driver attention monitoring, a 360-degree camera, rear auto braking and front and rear parking sensors.
Above the Touring sits the GT, which adds larger 21-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beam, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, electric steering wheel adjustment, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, front and rear ‘signature’ lighting, more interior lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
At the top of the range is the Azami, which adds machined alloy wheels, body-coloured lower cladding, Nappa leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a ‘see-through’ function for the 360-degree camera, lane trace assist and ventilated front seats.
Optional on the Azami is either the Takumi Package or the SP Package (both are $5,000 extra). Both packages remove the middle rear seat for a six-seat layout with second row Captain’s Chairs with ventilation, while the Takumi Package adds white Nappa leather upholstery with white maple wood trim and cloth dashboard trim and the SP Package adds tan Nappa leather with suede dashboard trim.
No-cost colour options for the Mazda CX-90 range include ‘Sonic Silver’, ‘Platinum Quartz’, ‘Deep Crystal Blue’ and ‘Jet Black’. ‘Rhodium White’, ‘Soul Red Crystal’, ‘Artisian Red’ and ‘Machine Grey’ are also available for an extra $995.
