An influx of stock of the popular Mazda CX-5 is on its way to Australia after key supply bottlenecks were overcome

Mazda Australia has confirmed hopeful CX-5 buyers have a good chance of getting their hands on their new midsize SUV before Christmas.

The Japanese carmaker which, like other manufacturers, has racked up an extensive order list, has promised that an influx of stock would clear much of the delay and the flow of vehicles was expected to improve thereafter.

Buyers are likely to snap up a CX-5 in Australia before Christmas

Mazda Australia’s senior manager of PR Amy O’Brien told Chasing Cars the brand has recently overcome key supply bottlenecks that had hampered supply.

“As a priority market for Mazda Corporation globally, we have always received good supply to meet customer demand,” she said.

“With solutions in place to overcome issues like parts shortages, supply has been recovered across key model lines, and this has helped Mazda Australia secure stock at almost pre-pandemic levels.”

This will come as welcome news to many buyers in Australia, with the CX-5 recording 23,476 sales in 2022 counting until the end of October, making it the second-most popular SUV on sale in Australia behind the Toyota RAV4 with 30,370.

Healthy stock of other models such as the BT-50 are also on the way

Buyers also have a chance to snap up other popular models such as the Mazda 2 small car, Mazda 6 sedan/wagon, CX-3 small SUV, BT-50 ute as well as the CX-8 and CX-9 large SUV.

However, stock of the popular Mazda 3 hatch/sedan and CX-30 and MX-30 small SUVs will be more limited – though ultimately stock will vary by dealerships. Mazda has recommended buyers contact their local store for information on specific colours and grades.

Mazda CX-5 features in brief

Currently, the CX-5 is available in a choice of five grades with a range of petrol, turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel engine options.

Standard features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels, as well as safety features such as forwards and reversing AEB, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-keep assist.

Higher grades receive a larger touchscreen and leather seats

For 2023, Mazda has added more standard features including a 10.25-inch display to replace the old 8.0-inch unit, ditched the manual option and extended the service intervals on the petrol models from 10,000km to 15,000km.

Stepping up to the higher grades adds features such as Nappa leather seats, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, and seat heating and ventilation.
