The Maserati name hasn’t exactly been synonymous with quality or reliability as of late. A recent J.D. Power initial build quality ranking had the Italian automaker pretty much at the bottom of the pile. But there is a light on the horizon for current and future owners in the form of a just-announced extended warranty program being made available in Canada, the U.S., and Latin America.
Beginning in October, the Extra10 program extends coverage of powertrain components including engine, gearbox, and transmission until the car turns 10 years old and is open to new car buyers, as well as existing owners who may already have the brand’s existing 4- or 5-year warranty and whose vehicles are no older than 9.5 years. There is no mileage limit.
“This new service enables Maserati to provide all its customers with an innovative offer, adding value in terms of unparalleled flexibility in the automotive world,” Maserati writes in a press release. “A major new feature for the brand, aimed at consolidating the value of its cars over time, guaranteeing total peace of mind by combining top performance and the driving pleasure typical of every Trident car.”
As far as warranty programs go, the Extra10 program is a solid option that should hypothetically tempt some buyers who were shying away from the Italian marquee due to the potential headache and cost of powertrain repairs. Current Maserati owners are encouraged to check at their local dealer to see if their vehicle qualifies and to activate the program.
