maserati grecale officially launched in malaysia with choice of gt, modena and trofeo variants
The all-new Maserati Grecale had its global premiere in late March and it is now available for sale in Malaysia. Officially launched by Naza Italia, this all-new premium compact SUV from the Italian Trident will come in 3 variants with varying power output i.e. Grecale GT, Grecale Modena and the Grecale Trofeo.

Lauded as “The Everyday Exceptional”, the Maserati Grecale is designed to provide a balance of versatility, elegance, performance and innovation, guaranteeing its performance, comfort and safety. These features are combined with off-road capabilities and uncompromising driving pleasure to ensure journeys are extraordinary.

The Grecale GT is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder mild hybrid engine capable of delivering 300 hp @ 5,750 rpm and 450 Nm of torque @ 2,000 – 4,000 rpm. Paired to an 8-speed Gen2.5 8HP50 gearbox, the GT can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, or to 200 km/h in 23.7 seconds; top speed maxes out at 240 km/h. All Grecale variants have 4-wheel drive, but the GT’s comes with open mechanical rear differential with optional limited slip self-locking. The GT is also the tallest of the lot at 1,670 mm compared to 1,667 mm (Modena) and 1,659 mm (Trofeo), but slightly shorter in length (4,846 mm vs 4,847 mm vs 4,859 mm) and not as wide (1,948 mm vs 1,979 mm for both the Modena & Trofeo). Wheelbase for all variants are 2,901 mm.

The Grecale Modena also shares the same mild hybrid engine set-up as the GT but gets a bump in output to 330 hp @ 5,750 rpm; peak torque remains the same but stretches to 5,000 rpm. Unlike the GT, the Modena has a limited slip self-locking mechanical rear differential. Its sprint times are 5.3 seconds (0 – 100 km/h) and 21.9 seconds (0 – 200 km/h).

The range-topping Grecale Trofeo is fitted with a high-performance 3.0L twin turbo V6 based on the Nettuno engine fitted in the MC20. Power-wise, it has 530 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 620 Nm @ 3,000 – 5,500 rpm. With the 8-speed Gen2 8HP75 transmission and a limited slip self-locking electronic rear differential, the Trofeo can takes just 3.8 seconds to sprint to 100 km/h, and 13.8 seconds to 200 km/h. Its top speed is capped at 285 km/h. The Trofeo also comes standard with air springs, which is an option for the other 2 variants. Another difference is the larger cargo volume i.e. 570 litres vs 535 litres for the mild hybrid variants.

The driving experience is handled by the new, 100% Maserati Vehicle Dynamic Control Module (VDCM) system and the 360° control it offers over the car. The option of complete control translates into a clear distinction between the various Drive Modes i.e. COMFORT, GT, SPORT, CORSA (Trofeo only) and OFF-ROAD, depending on your mood or preference.

The Grecale is named after the northeasterly Mediterranean wind and is developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, and produced at the Cassino plant. The new SUV is designed to stand out in terms of spaciousness and comfort, boasting an impressive set of “best-in-class” features. It is best-in-class in terms of interior space, driveability, handling, acceleration the Trofeo), top speed (again, the Trofeo), sound quality and extensive use of fine materials such as wood, carbon fibre and leather.

The design of the Grecale embraces Maserati’s new visual symbol which distinguishes every new model since the MC20. The front features a low and imposing grille while the profile is notable for its contrast between purity and technique, with a highly fluid look highlighted with the use of carbon fibre. In the rear, the boomerang taillights are inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT and fit in with the trapezoidal line, and enhanced by the coupé silhouette.

Within the cabin, the standout tech specs include the traditional Maserati clockface which is now digital. The tech turns the car into an assistant, courtesy of voice control. The user interface is practically touch-based, for extreme aesthetic cleanliness. The technology is controlled from the displays i.e. the large 12.3” central screen, the largest ever seen in a Maserati, another 8.8” display for the extra controls and a third for the passengers in the rear seats. An optional state-of-the-art heads-up display is available, taking its place among the best currently available in terms of brightness, contrast and viewing angles.

The in-car experience is managed from the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system, from the state-of-the-art infotainment and from Maserati Connect.* The in-car sound is pushed to the absolute limits of enjoyment by an all-round sound experience, ensured by the typical Maserati roar and the immersive Sonus faber 3D sound system. The Sonus faber audio system, standard at premium level, includes 14 speakers, or 21 speakers on demand at High Premium level.

This “Everyday Exceptional” comes in an additional 3 launch colours i.e. GT version comes in Bronzo Opaco, an enveloping and silky matte hue; Modena has Grigio Cangiante (an iridescent grey), made possible by an interposed 3-layer paint with effects inspired by the freshness of summer light; Trofeo comes in Giallo Corse, a powerful expression of the unbreakable bond between Maserati and Modena, a shade that combines the city’s two heraldic colours, with a yellow base and a blue mica, for the sportiest look.
