The Maserati GranTurismo is nearing its official launch and the Italian automaker has decided to unveil the exterior of the petrol-powered coupe. The model in question is propelled by the Nettuno V6 with power figures yet to be confirmed.

The electrically powered GranTurismo Folgore demonstrated the styling of the coupe for the first time as part of the automaker’s bid to offer an EV of each model in their lineup by 2025. This new product roadmap will also amalgamate the Ghibli and Quattroporte with the former getting the axe.
While brands consistently move towards SUVs to form the basis of their bread and butter, Maserati has stayed true to its racing roots and offered the MC20 supercar and this piston-powered GranTurismo. The newcomer is rumoured to employ the same engine as its mid-mounted-engined counterpart, a motor which also has a home in the Grecale SUV.

Performance in the Nettuno V6-powered Maserati GranTurismo can thus expectedly be less than the 456 kW and 729 N.m supercar but more than the 384 kW and 620 N.m of the SUV although this is speculation.
Despite what power it puts out, Maserati has confirmed that the electric GranTurismo Folgore will be perched at the top of the pecking order. Rightly so since it will boast a whopping 894 kW and can get up to 100 km/h in as little as 2,6 seconds, leaving its fossil-fuel powered counterparts trailing in its performance wake.
Further down the line, towards the end of the decade, Maserati aims to be fully electric with the ludicrous Folgore leading the way. For now, we can expect the GranTurismo range to be revealed by the end of the year before it goes onto showroom floors in 2023.
