Suzuki says demand for smaller, efficient vehicles helps set new high for the brand in New Zealand.
Suzuki New Zealand is celebrating its best month for new-vehicle sales after recording 931 registrations in November, which was up 49 per cent from the same period a year ago.
The marque says the record performance, according to figures from the Motor Industry Association, came despite total monthly sales of new vehicles falling by 4.3 per cent from November 2021.
Suzuki’s registrations last month captured 8.3 per cent of the passenger and SUV market, making it the fourth best-selling brand in those segments for November and the year to date.
Its sales over the first 11 months of 2022 are also up 4.8 per cent year-on-year, while the overall market is down 0.2 per cent.
The Swift was Suzuki’s top-selling model in November, with sales up 67.2 per cent from a year ago. Year-to-date it has achieved 3,566 registrations for an increase of 32.7 percent compared with the same period in 2021.
Gary Collins, general manager of motor vehicle marketing, says demand for the super compact Ignis, pictured, Jimny, Vitara and S-Cross range all contributed to the record month.
He adds there has been a considerable shift in the market this year towards “more environmentally responsible vehicles”.
“This has been obvious with the high number of electric vehicle sales over recent months. But for many customers the move to an efficient smaller vehicle than what they currently own has been the more affordable option which still allows them to lower their running costs while also reducing the emissions from their driving,” he explains.
“The additional benefit that many of our Swift and Ignis models attract rebates under the clean car discount programme makes the models even more affordable.”
