Aimed at improved handling.
There are countless aftermarket tuners capable of delivering big horsepower cars, especially if you're working with the Porsche 911 as a base vehicle, but there are only a handful of tuners that know how to make an already fast car, much faster around a track. This is where Manthey Racing steps in. This tuner is famous for its record-breaking Porsche 911 GT2 RS which smashed the Nurburgring record back in June with a mind-blowing time of 6:38.835 minutes. Manthey has developed a number of performance packages for both the 911 and 992 generation of Porsche 911, and the best part is that they are OEM approved, so you retain your factory warranty, even though performance levels dramatically increase. Manthey's latest package is for the Porsche 992 911 GT3, and it takes this already impressive car to a whole new level.
Manthey's focus with the new package is not to massively increase power on the GT3. Unlike modern turbo cars which see huge leaps in power with a simple ECU tune, the GT3's 4.0-liter flat-six naturally-aspirated engine is highly strung, and its power figures of 502 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque are more than enough for most track work.
Instead, Manthey aims at improving the aerodynamics, grip, and handling of the GT3 through some clever modifications and alterations. The GT3 tuning package includes a Manthey 4-way adjustable coilover kit developed with KW Suspensions, Manthey's OM-1 lightweight alloy wheels, high-performance brake pads, and braided brake lines. Aerodynamics are also improved thanks to a new front splitter and front canards. The back-end gets a new diffuser, a large carbon wing, and carbon-disc covers for the rear wheels.
“The team at Porsche in Weissach presented us with a big challenge when they produced the new GT3. Our goal of improving the performance of the Porsche GT models even further for track use, without making too many changes to the car's essential DNA, and, at the same time, coming up with an attractive package for customers who love to drive on the track, has meant a lot of work for us with the new model. Alongside the performance, I'm also really pleased with the car's appearance,” said Stefan Mages, head of development at Manthey-Racing. Manthey expects its GT3 to lap the Ring in the 6:40:00 minute range.
