Up to eight percent price decreases for Ford’s electric SUV as the Detroit carmaker follows Tesla’s cost-slashing
US carmaker Ford has announced price cuts across its entire Mustang Mach-E electric midsize SUV range, starting today – with recent buyers set to receive the discount too.
The move by the Michigan-based ‘big three’ manufacturer will be perceived as following Tesla’s decision to apply a substantial price decrease to its Model Y.
Tesla’s Model Y, also a midsize SUV, was the most popular electric vehicle sold in the US in 2022. It was also the highest-selling EV in Australia last year.
There has been a major price cut for the Ford Mustang Mach-E
Ford’s price reductions are not as dramatic in the US market as those of Tesla but the move could set off an EV price war in that market.
The Mustang Mach-E’s list pricing in the United States will be decreased by between $600 for the level-two Select AWD variant, to as high as $5900 for a range-topping Mach-E GT.
These price cuts represent discounts of between 1 percent and 8 percent. Tesla, on the other hand, slashed the price of the Model Y by up to 20 percent in the US market.

Still, Mustang Mach-E remains solidly the more affordable option, with the entry-level Select RWD standard range model now priced at $45,995 after this week’s $900 discount. In the US market, the Model Y is priced from $52,990.
In Australia, Tesla did apply a price decrease to its lineup but this was much more subdued than the changes seen on its American home turf.
Locally, the Model Y rear-wheel drive grade received a price cut of $3400 – a four percent decrease compared to 2022 pricing. The Performance variant, which has not actually landed in Australia as yet, received a smaller two percent cut.
