You can now shop a Lucid Air in Ontario. Tucked into a charming little boutique in the southeast corner of Toronto’s toney Yorkdale mall, Lucid is looking to challenge Tesla at the upper echelon of the EV game.
Blessed with 112 kilowatt-hours of lithium-ion, the company claims its top-of-the-range Air Dream Edition (CDN$229,000) is capable of 836 kilometres on a single charge and, thanks to its 900-volt battery architecture, is blessed with the ability to charge at 300 kW. That makes the Dream Edition the “fastest charging luxury car in the world” says the Newark, California-based start-up.
Not only that, all that high-speed charging will be free at any Electrify Canada charging station. Oh, it’s only for two years, but it is complimentary and, better yet, according to a recent announcement, it’s also unlimited.
That’s across all the 120 charging points and 30 charging stations Electrify Canada currently operates here in the Great White Frozen North, which will expand to 500 chargers spread across 100 stations by 2026. Assuming you can find one of the 350-kW versions of Electrify Canada’s charging points, you can add 350 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes.
That, of course, is a manufacturer’s claim. We’ll be conducting our own Range Finder testing sometime this summer and putting through its paces the car that Motor Trend has already anointed its 2022 Car of the Year.
