In today’s age of social media, a lot of incidents can be easily caught on camera and go viral on the internet.
Not too long ago, a traffic altercation, which turned into a fistfight, between an L300 driver and a delivery rider along Felix Ave. in Cainta, Rizal, was caught on video and immediately went viral. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) saw the video and summoned both the rider and driver.
In a February 22, 2023, decision of LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID), both the rider and the driver were given a 90-day (3 months) driver’s license suspension due to the severity of their actions.
According to LTO-IID officer-in-charge Renante Melitante, both the motorcycle rider and the driver of the L300 van were given 5-days to submit their position papers as to why they should not be charged with administrative cases, as well as reckless driving and obstruction of traffic in accordance with RA 4136.
Additionally, both the motorcycle and driver should explain themselves as to why the LTO should not revoke their privilege to drive a motorcycle/motor vehicle (Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle).
“In addition, the registered owner of the subject motor vehicle (L-300 van) is hereby directed to bring at LTO North Motor Vehicle Inspection Center for inspection,” said LTO.
LTO chief, Atty. Jayart Tugade stressed that having a driver’s license is only a privilege that motorists should respect and take care of.
