The Volkswagen Amarok has an official unveil date, with US reports pointing to the Ford Ranger-related ute officially break cover on July 7 ahead of a global on-sale date later in 2022.
With the Ford Ranger having already broken cover, the clock was ticking on when Volkswagen’s version would also be revealed, and we now know the big day is less than two months away.
But the news isn’t all good for Australian buyers. It will be a case of look but don’t touch for the new Amarok, with Volkswagen Commercial director, Ryan Davies, recently telling CarsGuide that customer cars are unlikely to arrive in Australia before the beginning of 2023.
“The global reveal of the new Amarok will happen just after mid-year, so in July, and we may see a couple of cars towards the end of year, but only enough to show the media and dealers perhaps,” he said.
“We won’t really get production vehicles arriving through until January or February 2023,” said Mr Davies.
The Ford-related ute is expected to be offered in Australia exclusively in dual-cab guise, and is strongly tipped to continue offering a beefy V6 diesel somewhere in its line-up.
“We have such a history with the V6 – we’re the only one on the market now that has it. We’ve got a lot of buyers out there that will be chomping at the bit to change over to a new V6, or even get the last of the current V6,” Mr Davies told us recently.
“We’ve got a bit of a cult following in the segment already, definitely more than Ford, that’s for sure.”
