Ford’s Lincoln brand has shown a preview of its future design language with the Star Concept. Lincoln also officially announced four electric vehicle models by 2026 and aims to have more than half of its sales in BEVs by the middle of the decade.
The brand intends to maintain its “Quiet Flight” philosophy for particularly comfortable and quiet travel, but give it a “fascinating, dynamic new face”. The new design language has been applied outside and in, according to the release, “fully embracing Lincoln’s core principles of beauty, humanity, glide and sanctuary”.
Joy Falotico, president of Lincoln, stated, “It’s a great example of how we’re redefining luxury for the next generation as we work to transform the vehicle into a third space – a true sanctuary – for our customers.”
Similar to the Audi Urbansphere concept car unveiled earlier this week, the Lincoln Star Concept is a large SUV-style crossover that looks bulky on the outside and is designed to offer plenty of space on the inside – precisely to give customers their own private space when travelling or in the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
“Electrification is removing many traditional vehicle design constraints, allowing us to reimagine what a vehicle can be,” says Anthony Lo, Chief Design Officer, Ford Motor Company. “The Lincoln Star is a study of experiences and themes that push the boundaries of Lincoln design – and it’s just the start.”
However, it should be noted that the launch of the electrification offensive with four models by 2026 will probably turn out to be much more conventional than the futuristic Star Concept. For these are apparently electric versions of well-known combustion models, although it is still unclear how much the electric cars will be adapted – or not. As Electrek writes with reference to “a source with knowledge of this matter”, two of the four models are to be presented in the coming months. These are said to be fully electric versions of the Aviator and Corsair.
According to the source, production of the seven-seat Aviator is to start in December 2024, that of the Corsair EV in February 2025. Possible technical data are not mentioned in the report. However, the information largely coincides with a Reuters report from mid-February: at that time, citing three sources, it mentioned at least five electric SUVs by 2026. Among them are BEV models that will replace or complement the Lincoln models Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator and Navigator.
