Lexus has released a teaser shot of the new 2023 RX, but that’s all we can expect to see until the all-new model is revealed on May 31, 2022.
It’s obvious the company’s trademark “spindle” grille will continue into the new RX, but the boomerang-style running light now bisects the headlamp section instead of sliding under it, and there’s a new shape to the hood.
There will be more changes from the current model, of course, but we don’t expect it to be too far removed. The RX sport-utility is by far the best-selling model Lexus has in Canada, and the automaker likely isn’t going to mess too much with success.
The 2022 model comes in a RX 350 trim, with a 3.5L V6 making 295 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque; and as the RX 450h hybrid, which mates that V6 to an electric motor for a combined 308 horsepower, and with a combined city/highway fuel consumption of 7.9 L/100 km. Both are also available as the longer-length RX 350L and RX 450hL with a third row of seats, but it’s up in the air as to whether the new RX will include both.
We’re still expecting the RX to offer a hybrid, but we won’t be surprised if it’s a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which will give drivers a range of electric-only operation after it’s plugged in and charged, and then revert to conventional gas-electric hybrid operation after that runs out. We don’t expect the RX to go battery-only, as that’s going to be a job for the all-new RZ 450e that was recently announced. It will be Lexus’ first all-electric vehicle and will go on sale later in 2022. In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted when Lexus takes off all the covers on the 2023 RX.
