- Lexus revealed sporty RZ Sport, two off-road-kitted SUVs, and a new side-by-side
- RZ Sport showcases motorsport styling on brand’s first EV
- RX Outdoor and GX Outdoor add camping accoutrement to popular SUVs
Lexus dropped a handful of never-before-seen concepts at the Tokyo Auto Salon, including one motorsport-inspired EV and a trio of off-road vehicles aimed at convincing the world that a new Lexus can hack it when the pavement ends.
The RZ Sport Concept is essentially a flex of the brand’s first EV, which is slated to arrive later this year in Canada as a 2023 model, demonstrating how the electric SUV can be styled to look racier in the literal sense. Lexus lowered the white-and-black RZ Sport by 35 mm, added two carbon-fiber wings to the roof and trunk, bucket seats, fitted larger tires with racing wheels, and etched vents out of the fenders and hood. There’s also nearly 100 more horsepower (402 total, up from 308), thanks to mods to the rear electric motor.

Adding the “Outdoor” tag to the RX meant fitting it with off-road tires and matching black trim, bumper-embedded LED spotlights, an aluminum skid plate, and a rooftop tent on an aluminum roof rack to the RX 450h+ model. Built on the GX 460, the GX Outdoor also features a rack and tent up top, off-road tires, a Rigid light bar, extra containers for storage, a winch, bumper LEDs, a skid plate, and suspension custom made by Old Man Emu.
The final and smallest concept Lexus has on display in Tokyo is the ROV Concept 2, an updated version of its side-by-side that runs on compressed hydrogen and rolls on airless tires. Check them all out in the gallery above.
