Japanese luxury brand introduces limited-edition Crafted variants of its mid-size NX and large RX SUVs
Lexus aims to draw more attention to its mid-size NX and large-class RX SUVs with a range of limited-edition ‘Crafted’ variants that add special features to bridge the gap between base and up-spec models.
Although Crafted editions of the Lexus RX have existed before, the smaller NX gains the special nomenclature for the first time, in NX 300 and NX 300h hybrid guise with either front-drive or AWD layouts.
Lexus says the additional features of the Crafted NX will bring the desirability of the luxury-class SUV to a wider range of buyers.
“We have developed the Crafted packages to enable customers to enjoy the benefits of a substantial suite of desirable new luxury features without stepping all the way to a higher grade,” said Lexus Australia chief executive Scott Thompson.
For the mid-size Lexus SUV these features include a head-up display, an overhead 360-degree view featuring a transparent X-ray function that looks through the vehicle to make parking easier, a smart key card that enables keyless starting and remote unlocking of the doors and boot, black 18-inch alloy wheels with bright, machined spokes, illuminated front-door scuff plates and black-accented grille and side mirrors.
The Lexus NX Crafted is available in nine colours, including the new Carmelian hue that has just become available on all NX models, plus a choice of black or cream interior trim that is set off nicely by silver film ornamentation.
Applying only to the front-drive NX 300 Crafted variant, Lexus is also offering a drive-away price of $62,888.
The bigger Lexus RX Crafted is available in five-seat form only, across RX 300 turbo, RX 350 V6 and RX 450h hybrid models.
It can be spotted easily with its black 20-inch wheels, plus the black-accented grille, fog lights, exterior mirrors and rear bumper. A panoramic sunroof is also a part of the RX Crafted package.
All Crafted edition models feature the Lexus LSS + safety system including AEB with pedestrian detection, all-speed active cruise control and auto high-beam bi-LED headlights.
RX Crafted edition models also include lane-tracing assist, LED cornering lights, part-leather trim, heated and ventilated front seats, power tailgate and wireless charging.
Like the Crafted NX, the RX version is offered with a special drive-away price, this time applying to the RX 300 variant, of $79,888.
The Lexus RX currently sits in third place on the $70K-plus large SUV sales chart, behind the BMW X5 and Range Rover Sport, while the NX is in fifth spot in the mid-size premium SUV segment behind the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.
