Although the current Mercedes-Benz E-Class looks up-to-date next to the W206 C-Class and the W223 S-Class, it isn’t built on the same updated platform yet. The current Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a facelifted (2020) W213, which is built on an “older” platform. The W214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will debut in 2023, and leaked images have revealed an EQ-like front end and a landscape-oriented head unit.
Shown with its cover pulled back and without wheels (in leaked images from China), the W214 is seen sporting an Exclusive-trim grille with the ‘disguised’ radar emitter in the centre. The Exclusive trim should also have a ‘gun sight’ 3-pointed-star logo perched on the hood. Surrounding the grille are black trims that give the W214 an ‘EQ’ look.

In spy shots showing the exterior of the W214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the car uses flush door handles that extend out when necessary. This may only be a feature for higher-trim levels of the next-generation E-Class. A dual camera setup can also be seen in the windscreen for the E-Class’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
Leaked images from China also show the interior of the W214 also shows interesting developments. Perched on the dashboard is a landscape-oriented infotainment unit that is uncharacteristic of the current-generation C-Class and S-Class. The shape of the dashboard, however, hints at a possible ‘hyperscreen’ configuration for higher-tier variants.

Previously it was reported that the next-generation W214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be the last car by the brand to be developed exclusively for internal combustion engines (ICE). In an interview with Automobilwoche, Mercedes-Benz development chief, Markus Schäfer said (translated), “As things stand today, the E-Class and its derivatives will be the last Mercedes-Benz model to be created on a pure internal combustion engine (ICE) platform.”
In Malaysia, the facelifted W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was launched in mid-2021. The sedan E-Class is available as the E200 Avantgarde which costs RM345,888, the E 300 AMG Line which costs RM399,888, and the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ which costs RM1,118,888.
