The popular Ram 1500, Canada’s second best-selling vehicle, is not going to offer a diesel option for much longer. In fact, the 2023 model year will be the last opportunity for customers to order one.
The automaker today released a statement confirming the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, which initially debuted in 2014 and was upgraded for 2020, will stop production in January.
“Our Ram EcoDiesel V6 engine has delighted consumers with the highest half-ton diesel torque rating and towing capability while being the first to exceed 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of range,” said Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. “As we quickly pivot toward an electrified future, we wanted to celebrate this last EcoDiesel milestone by offering our loyal light-duty diesel enthusiasts a final opportunity to order the truck they love.”
As previously reported, Ram will launch its first-ever battery-electric pickup in 2024 and have electrified solutions in the majority of its segments by 2025.
The 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is available in Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited models equipped with a Crew Cab. Its 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 generates 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, good for towing up to 12,560 pounds. Combined fuel consumption is under 10 L/100 km.

A Few Changes for 2023
While we’re at it, you should know that Ram has made some changes to the 1500 lineup for 2023, starting with the addition of a Limited Elite Edition. A jeweled rotary shifter, premium leather bucket seats, suede headliner, a unique instrument cluster theme and a bright pedal kit highlight an interior that already boasts the pinnacle of luxury and refinement. This model is powered by the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 with eTorque assist and carries a base MSRP of $92,820.
What else is new? Among other things, there’s an available 12-inch frameless digital gauge cluster featuring nearly two dozen different menus. The Ram 1500 Rebel now includes Selec-Speed Control as standard equipment, new 22-inch all-terrain tires are available with the Off-Road Group on Ram 1500 Laramie, Longhorn and Limited models, and Rear-seat Reminder Alert is now standard on all models.
