The Land Rover Defender range has swollen considerably for 2024, with an expanded range of 130 variants, a new plug-in hybrid, and a commercial version.
The 2024 line-up opens at $90,400 before on-road costs, with Australian deliveries beginning in November 2023. Stay tuned for a detailed pricing and specs story outlining all 21 variants in the 2024 line-up.
In addition to a range of new variants, detailed below, all Defender 90 models plus eight-seat 130 models gain a Loadspace Floor Tray accessory which ensures a near-flat load space.
Defender 130 Outbound
Defender 90 models also gain a parachute grab handle, a quick fold-and-slide front passenger seat, and 40:20:40 split/fold rear seats.
Defender 110 Hard Top
The Hard Top is a commercial version of the 110, with a bulkhead partition separating the front row from the rest of the cabin and standard lockable underfloor storage.
The second and third rows of seating are removed, though you can opt for a three-person jump seat up front.
An available ClearSight rear-view mirror aids visibility, as does a surround-view camera – standard fitment on all 2024 Defenders.
It’ll be available exclusively in D250 inline-six turbo-diesel guise, with a braked towing capacity of 3500kg. It’s priced at $110,000 before on-road costs.
Defender 110 P400e
Land Rover is busily expanding its range of plug-in hybrids Down Under, and the Defender 110e P400e is the latest addition. It will be offered in either X-Dynamic SE or X-Dynamic HSE trim.
It features a 221kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated with a 105kW electric motor, for total system outputs of 297kW and 640Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds.
Land Rover claims an electric range of 52km and fuel economy as low as 3.4L/100km. It can also be charged using a DC fast charger.
Braked towing capacity is 3000kg.
Plug-in hybrid models are priced at $127,600 and $139,300 before on-road costs.
Defender 130
The new Defender 130, an extended-length, eight-seat version of the Defender with a more spacious third row, is available with a choice of three engines.
There’s a 221kW/650Nm 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-diesel, a 294kW/550Nm 3.0-litre inline-six turbo petrol, and a 368kW/610Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8.
The latter is slightly detuned compared to the V8 in the 90 and 110, which produces 386kW and 625Nm. The 130 V8’s claimed 0-100km/h time is 5.7 seconds.
V8 models are available only in either Carpathian Grey or Santorini Black paint finishes, and feature quad outboard-mounted exhausts.
The 130 V8 is priced at $237,900 before on-roads.
The 130 is also available in a special Outbound variant, which ditches the third row of seats and comes exclusively with the P400 petrol inline-six powertrain. It’s distinguished by its gloss black 20-inch alloy wheels, the Shadow Atlass matte finish on its bumpers and grille, and its Anthracite side vents.
It’s available only in Fuji White, Santorini Black, Carpathian Grey and Eiger Grey exterior finishes, with a choice durable Resist fabric or full Windsor leather upholstery, both in black.
With no third row, the Outbound has between 1329L and 2516L of luggage space. There’s rubber floor matting in the rear.
It’s priced at $138,400 before on-roads.
Defender 110 County Exterior Pack
Another familiar name returning to the Defender is County, with a new exterior pack by this name joining the 110 line-up.
Available only in S D250 specification, it adds unique graphics, illuminated treadplates, and 20-inch alloy wheels available in two finishes including Gloss White.
It can be had in either Fuji White or Santorini Black, both with a contrasting Tasman Blue roof, tailgate and decals. Alternatively, you can specify it in Tasman Blue with white contrasting details.
Inside, there’s a choice of Resist fabric, Grained Leather and Windsor leather upholstery, all finished in Ebony and paired with Robustec veneer interior trim. An Acorn with Lunar interior is optional on all bar Tasman Blue models.
