As the old saying goes, legends are born not created, This is somewhat wrong in the case of the Land Rover Defender, a vehicle born in the mid 1900s and creating its own legend over decades of adventure around the globe. Land Rover has decided to celebrate that legend with an exclusive range of anniversary spec Defenders
Celebrating a legend
There are very few vehicles that are as legendary as the Land Rover Defender. First released back in 1948, the Defender has had many an iteration over the decades and has become one of the most beloved offroad vehicles the world has known. When the Land Rover brand decided to discontinue the marque back in January 2016 there was an outcry from die-hard enthusiasts that did not want to let go of the long-standing offload king.
Fans didn’t have to wait long as a mere 3 years later in September 2019 the new Defender was announced with the first models arriving in SA in mid-2020. These models were hot property and Land Rover knew they had a winner on their hands.
Fast-forward a few years and hot on the heels of the announcement of a long-wheelbase 130 Defender, Land Rover has announced a special 75th anniversary special of the Defender 90 and 110 models. Here’s what you can expect when you opt for this very special derivative.
Green with envy
The first and most striking feature is the one-off special paintwork that these models are draped in. The 90 and 110 Anniversary models get the 75th Anniversary exclusive Grasmere Green treatment with matching 20″ alloy wheels and graphic pack. You will also find small features such as matched wheel Centre caps, Ceres Silver bumpers and privacy glass.
Flash interior
The theme continues inside as the vehicle gets a Cross Car Beam finished in brushed Grasmere Green Powder Coat and laser-etched detailing on the Cross Car Beam end caps as well as the seats being finished in an Ebony Resist faux leather. There are two separate options available here, a Limited Edition and a Lifestyle model.
The Limited Edition carries features based on the high-specification HSE model, with comprehensive standard equipment. Innovative technology includes 3D Surround Camera, Configurable Terrain Response, Meridian Sound System, Matrix LED front lighting, 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system, Head-Up Display and Wireless Device Charger. All 75th Limited Edition models also feature a Folding Fabric Roof or the option of a Sliding Panoramic Roof, while superior comfort is provided by 14-way driver and passenger heated electric memory seats, heated steering wheel, and Three Zone Climate Control. An Electrically Deployable Tow Bar.
The Lifestyle model shares the Grasmere Green colour theme and features a comprehensive range of Land Rover Defender branded goodies including a minimalist unique watch featuring two straps, a functional backpack, and clothing with unique 75 Years graphics and detail.
