The supercar maker isn’t abandoning its efforts in the Super Trofeo series or IMSA GT Daytona classes, but the prototype will allow Lamborghini to compete for the overall win at Le Mans.
Lamborghini- Lamborghini has confirms it will have a car ready to participate in the LMDh Prototype class in 2024.
- The car will be eligible for both IMSA, where it will race with the GTP name, and the World Endurance Championship.
- This marks the first time Lamborghini will compete in the top class, where it can vie for overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
As expected, Lamborghini has confirmed its participation in the LMDh Prototype class, which will be eligible for both IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where it will race with the GTP name, and FIA World Endurance Championship. Though the new car replaces the current Daytona Prototype international, or DPi, beginning in 2023, Lamborghini’s car won’t be ready until 2024.
The company’s commitment to the class is the step into the top level of sports car racing, allowing Lamborghini to compete for overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.
Lamborghini joins Porsche, Cadillac, Acura, and BMW, which have already committed to the series’ 2023 kickoff. The company will continue its participation in the IMSA GT Daytona and IMSA GT Daytona Pro classes, Giorgio Sanna, head of Lamborghini Motorsport, told Autoweek.

On one hand, this will give our successful motorsports program even more visibility, but it will also allow us to test future technologies.”

Lamborghini will continue to field cars in the marque-specific Super Trofeo series, as well as the IMSA GT Daytona series, as seen here.

Sanna said that drivers have not been selected, but those currently participating in GT and other series for Lamborghini will “certainly be considered.” Lamborghini has a history of promoting young, up-and-coming drivers from within its own system, rather than hire high-dollar top names who drive for other brands.
In addition to the IMSA-sanctioned, Lamborghini-only Super Trofeo series, the company fields the CarBahn-owned Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Daytona series, as well as the NTE/SSR Huracan, running a limited schedule. TR3 Racing, also running a limited schedule, scored a second-place finish in the 2022 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
