Lamborghini's Huracàn Sterrato revealed, to rival the incoming Porsche 911 Dakar
Lamborghini has revealed its Huracàn Sterrato in new images prior to its full debut on November 30 at Art Basel in Miami. This unusual high-riding supercar is just the latest of many new models spun off the existing Huracàn platform, but is likely to be the one that brings production of the V10-powered supercar to a close before being totally reimagined in a few years time. Until then, it'll sign off a range that more recently has given us the brilliant STO, Tecnica and EVO RWD.
These new images confirm that it'll feature many of the off-road inspired design elements of the 2019 concept, including black wheel arch extensions, bespoke bumpers and a new engine cover that incorporates a small snorkel intake.

Other detail elements, such as the small LED driving lights, tiny roof rails and a splash guard in front of the high-mounted side intake have also been brought through into production, giving it a very distinctive rugged appearance. The wheels are bespoke to the Sterrato, and look to be fitted with tyres with a higher profile than the standard model, although not as rugged as the units seen on the rival Porsche 911 Dakar.
The Sterrato will be powered by the same 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine as in all Huracáns, although final power and torque figures are still to be confirmed. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a dual-clutch transmission. The standard Evo’s LDVI integrated vehicle dynamics system will also be fitted, likely with a new off-road mode that will vary the calibration of all its dynamic chassis elements from steering, suspension and the torque split.
If the notion of an off-roading, mid-engined supercar sounds a little unusual, it’s worth remembering that two of the greatest Rally and Rally Raid cars in history followed this template, namely the Lancia Stratos, and later the iconic Rothmans-liveried Porsche 959 that rose to fame by winning the 1986 Paris-Dakar.

Of course the Sterrato isn't without a contemporary rival, which comes in the form of Porsche's limited-run 911 Dakar – a high-riding take on the Carrera with a similar focus on rugged off-roading ability. We'll get to know more about the Sterrato at the end of this month, with more technical information and its pricing position coming alongside.
