The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has reportedly suffered RM 6 million in losses on the Express Wau train service that runs from Tumpat to Kuala Lumpur. As such, the Kelantan State Assembly was told that the company can no longer operate the service.
According to a report by News Straits Times (NST), State Utility, Infrastructure, and Works Committee chairman Datuk Azami Mohd Nor said that KTMB found that passengers are opting for other train services that the company is providing to the East Coast.

One such service is the ETS train that runs from Kuala Lumpur to Gemas and later connects to Express Timuran. There are also shuttle trains that use Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) from Gemas to Tumpat.
Azami said this when replying to a question at the Kelantan State Assembly sitting on 19-July-2022.

The Express Wau service runs from the Tumpat, the last station in the East Coast, all the way to KL Sentral. KTMB halted the service back in 2014, the trains that used to ply this route have long since fell into disarray due to lack of maintenance and the floods that has hit the area.
