Swedish hypercar-maker to expand plant and build dedicated test track to develop next-gen models
Koenigsegg has released pictures that detail how it will expand its current factory to produce a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and test track.
According to Bugatti-rival, the need to expand the current facility by around 30,000 square-metres has been driven by a lack of space required to build the wild 1.27 megaWatts, four-seat, 400km/h hybrid Gemera.
Expanding out into the neighbouring Valhall Park, that was once a military Swedish airbase, the new designs details signal a significant upgrade on the current plant.
Inside, as well as the new Gemera production line, Koenigsegg will build a customer lounge to help owners specify their future car using full-scale models.
Future product unveils and press conferences will also be help in the upgrade facility.
If that’s not enough, a new 800 square-metre museum will also feature cars from the brand’s past and present to help educate visitors on Koenigsegg’s history.
Outside, the car-maker’s grounds, set in Angelholm south-west Sweden, will feature dining areas, tree pods for outdoor meetings and a new on-sight test track where both pre-delivery testing and prototype development will take place.
As well as expanding the plant, Koenigsegg says it will recruit another 100 engineers and 150 production stuff to ensure, by the end of 2023, it will employ more than 800 people.
“Looking back at where we started 27 years ago, it’s incredible to think of the journey we have been on,” said company founder Christian von Koenigsegg. “Our expansion is a mark of our past and future relevance where we are geared towards delivering bleeding-edge mobility tech and our handcrafted ultimate performance automobiles.”
