The current location is getting a complete facelift.
With the imminent arrival of the Koenigsegg Gemera, the niche supercar manufacturer has announced that it will be conducting a massive expansion of its facilities in Angelholm, Sweden. The revamp will include a revised high-tech production and assembly line, customer lounge, offices, event, showroom, and retail spaces in a bid to offer an even more conclusive client experience.
To produce and develop even better cars, Koenigsegg’s new facilities will accommodate more warehousing and pre-production spaces, an experience center, and an on-site track for performance testing. These alterations will see the company’s footprint expand by just under 323,000 square feet from the existing 108,000 square feet of space.
The Gemera factory will be an extension of the current building and four ex-air-force hangers that now act as production and assembly facilities. From the outside, the new design draws inspiration from the accordion-like silhouette seen in old Swedish factories. Thanks to this, the interior can benefit from more space and natural light. The layout of the interior boasts an open plan and is expandable in case the production scale of the Gemera needs to be increased.
Koenigsegg says that it is expecting to grow even more in the coming years, so this factory expansion will have to accommodate that. Future customers of the Gemera will be treated to an ultra-modern lounge setting that features an in-depth and to-scale specification process. This space will also be used for upcoming unveilings and announcements from the brand.
Just outside this factory, Koenigsegg is planning to construct an on-site track that features technical corners. This will be used for pre-delivery testing and prototyping trials and builds on the company's in-house development philosophy, the result of which includes its revolutionary electric motor system.
The company says that it wants to create a space where its employees can feel motivated and energized. That's why the grounds make use of interactive green spaces with outdoor gyms, dining spaces, and chic tree pods for outdoor meetings. CO2-neutrality will be the finishing touch of the facility via a collection of solar panels which will be installed on the flat roofs of the factory.
If you want to get a closer look at the brand’s daily operations, it will be introducing a new experience center at Valhall park. This will cover just over 8,600 square feet and feature products from its past and present on a rotating gallery with a supplementary interactive set of stories relating to the history and future of the company.
Together with this expansion, Koenigsegg declares that it will be hiring another 100 engineers and 150 production staff by the end of 2023. This will bring its total employee count to 800 heads. CEO and Founder Christian von Koenigsegg says, “looking back at where we started 27 years ago, it’s incredible to think of the journey we have been on.
